These leaflets seem erudite, succinct and I believe them to be useful as reference documents. Unfortunately, they are probably worse than useless as leaflets round here, where I live, because, simple and easy to read as they are, the information they contain cannot be absorbed by most people. For example, speaking to the cashier in my local garage yesterday, I was unsurprised to learn she had no idea of the difference between a local election and a Parliamentary election; she had no idea of what the word 'policy' means and could not state one single issue currently being argued by leading politicians. She had never heard of UKIP or the EDL. She was unable even to state what was of particular local concern to her personally. She is able to read written English easily and is highly numerate and quick-thinking in terms of her duties as a till operator in the garage. I confess I was too frightened to ask if she voted in the last general election in case she had no idea what that was either.
