Interesting that Canada has already declared an interest in a free trade treaty.

Interesting because Canada is part of NAFTA, the North American free trade area. Hence if we had free trade with Canada we would effectively have free trade with all of NAFTA, American companies would merely need an office there.

Sounds like we could have bigger and better access to a far wealthier area than the EU the moment we leave.

This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England,
This nurse, this teeming womb of royal kings,
Fear'd by their breed, and famous by their birth,
Renowned for their deeds as far from home
As is the sepulchre, in stubborn Jewry,
Of the world's ransom, blessed Mary's son.

Thanks for that link Paul, I'm still digesting it. It contained this gem, which explains one of the more puzzling aspects of how the government creates debt and releases it into the national society.

A larger money supply actually leads to price increases and disruption of the deflationary spiral. In the past the printing presses would be turned on but nowadays the central bank buys government bonds, mortgage bonds and other securities and finances these transactions by increasing the personal balance. There are no extra physical bank notes printed. The mechanism works by means of central banks buying bonds in the market or directly from banks. Banks are credited for the purchase amount in the accounts held with the central bank. In this way, banks obtain liquidity. In response to this liquidity banks can then provide new loans.

Although it is confusing because it is talking about the Assett and Liability Balance Sheet (it has also been translated from Dutch).

For that sheet, an assett is positive and a liability is negative. Thus the Central Bank has to increase its assett account so that it is then able to transfer sterling to a Commercial Bank, which then has that liability (negative, i.e. a debt) on its assett account.

So how does the Central Bank increase its assett account? I think it just adds 100,000,000 to the account to add £100M to it. It is a fiction, creating money out of thin air. It works because the currency is still trusted, but over time, as that money trickles through circulation, it pushes the prices of all goods higher. In other words, it works be stealing money from all the existing holders of sterling.

In the old days, the king might steal money by nicking bits off the gold coins, or by mixing it with baser metals. Is this any different?

Stated as I have just put it, the process of Central Bank control of a Fiat money supply is clearly ridiculous. But of course they don't put it like that and they don't show you the magical bit where they just go in and add 100,000,000 to one of the accounts. They get away with it by making it so complicated and confusing. It's taken me years to get to the bottom of it.

I think the stock market will likely have a melt down. Every bad deal can now be blamed on Brexit and not on the dodgy dealings in Brussels and the wider economic community around the world. Its a bankers get out clause ...
