An Improvised Explosive Device similar to those used against British troops in Afghanistan was found in a car after police stopped two Asian men on June 30.

Two guns and ammunition were also seized.

Counter-terrorism detectives are trying to establish if there was an intent to attack supporters of the anti-Islamic protest group who raised tensions on an EDL march through Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, the same day.

Police say the car was stopped because it had no insurance and the two occupants were not held at that point.

However, after the arms cache was found, seven men aged between 22 and 43 were arrested in the West Midlands and West Yorkshire last week.

Documents in the vehicle allegedly contained anti-EDL propaganda.

Police sources say EDL marches are attracting a large number of anti- Fascists and Muslim extremists.

They are also concerned about reports suggesting the EDL has forged links with Sikh extremists following the rape of a Sikh woman by a Muslim.

Detective Chief Superintendent Kenny Bell, of the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit, said: “As soon as the items were discovered in the impounded vehicle, our priority was to protect the public by pursuing and arresting those we believed to be involved.”

In a separate investigation, Scotland Yard counter-terrorism officers yesterday arrested a 22-year-old woman in Hackney, east London, on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.

It follows six arrests on Thursday over the suspected terror plot.

British Muslim convert Richard Dart, 29, who changed his name to Salahuddin al-Britani, is believed to have been one of three people detained in Ealing, west London, and was arrested in the street.

He appeared in a BBC Three documentary, My Brother The Islamist, made by his stepbrother Robb Leech last year. It described how Dart, originally from Weymouth, Dorset, had been converted by controversial cleric Anjem Choudary.

In the documentary he spoke of his support for jihad and Sharia law.

Also detained in Ealing, at separate home addresses, were a 21-year-old man and a woman of 30.

Three men aged 18, 24 and 26, believed to be members of the same Bangladeshi family, were arrested in a raid on their home just over a mile from the Olympic site in Stratford, east London.

The six, who include a former Police Community Support Officer, remain in custody at a south-east London police station on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.

Warrants of further detention were granted at Westminster magistrates court.

The alleged plot involved Islamist extremists with potential targets in Britain but was not linked to the Olympics, it is understood.

The threat to the UK from international terrorism is currently rated substantial – the third highest of five levels.

One theory is the occupants were planning to bomb a march by the notorious far-right group taking place just hours later

I don't believe that they where on the way to bomb the rally, for the simple reason that when they where stopped they where heading in the wrong direction. If the where heading north it would make sense, as Dewsbury is in that direction. Also it doesn't make sense, that they would being going to Dewsbury in an un-insured car, seeing that there would be a large police presence, in would have made sense if the had gone a few days earlier, and stored the weapons at the house of the muslim who lived there.

I have a gut feeling that this incident is being used so as to frighten member of the EDL to stay away from future rallies, as many will now think twice before attending any demo in the future.

I do not think the EDL are are prime target of the islamists, because the media/ lefttards are countering the EDL quite effectively, and are supportive of muslims, so bombing the EDL would be counter productive, as muslims will be showing their true face.

There are many who would say the EDL deserved to be bombed, especially those on the left, they will lose sight that those killed where innocent, instead they will say the EDL asked for it. By drawing attention to the EDL, many will lose sight that innocent people where the intended target and likely to be killed. These would be murderers could have been heading any where, and it is just as likely they where on the way to the Olympics, or to a theatre, cinema, or even a school for a repeat of the Beslam massacre.

This type of reporting is disgusting, the media have totally failed, these moslem where preparing to kill innocent people somewhere in England, it could have been any where and the victims could have been any one, but the media refuse to say this, they are minimizing the threat that we all face.

By this type of reporting, the media have proved that they are criminally traitorous

Three men from Birmingham have appeared in court accused of plotting to attack members of the English Defence League.

Jewel Uddin, 26, Omar Mohammed Khan, 27, and Mohammed Hasseen, 23, all from Sparkhill, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on terror charges.

They were arrested in raids last week after police stopped a car on the M1 and found guns, knives, machetes and a home-made explosive device.

The case has been sent to the Old Bailey for a hearing on 31 July.

Mr Uddin, Mr Khan and Mr Hasseen are charged under the Terrorism Act 2006, accused of preparing for an act or acts of terrorism with the intention of committing such acts.

They are accused of manufacturing an improvised explosive device, as well as acquiring firearms and other weapons, and vehicles connected with their alleged plans.

The arrests, by the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit, followed a routine police stop of a vehicle on the M1 near Sheffield, South Yorkshire, on 30 June.

The alleged target of the attack was the anti-Islamic group, the English Defence League, who had held a rally in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, earlier that day.

Our correspondent says the defendants, all with dark hair and beards, wore black sweatshirts and trousers as they sat in the dock at Tuesday's hearing.

Four other men detained in connection with the investigation remain in custody.

They are a 22-year-old man from Smethwick, West Midlands; a 22-year-old man from Alum Rock, Birmingham; a 24-year-old man from Moseley, Birmingham; and a man aged 43 from Kirklees, West Yorkshire.

Police have been given until Wednesday to charge, release or apply for a warrant of further detention for three of them. The fourth man can be held until Thursday
Express report on the subject…tag:4freedoms.com,2012-07-08:3766518:Comment:1066092012-07-08T08:25:32.281ZAntonyhttp://4freedoms.com/profile/Antony
