Islam will replace Secular Democracy (SD) in Europe. As this happens, the US may wake up and adapt in time, but don't bank on it, our civilisational memory is very weak. Nowadays it is thought perfectly normal to let Turkey into the EU after it slaughtered and continues to persecute its Christians, and quite all right to see the Aya Sophia, the most important cathedral in Christian history, surrounded by 4 minarets (imagine Mecca with a 4 Crosses at its corners), because we have got used to the idea. Similary, as Europe falls under the control of Islam, Americans may just get used to the idea and go back to watching their blockbuster movies - until it happens to them.

These ideas are obviously not original to me, I have just try to catalogue and order them completely. Walter Lacqueur's books were being taught as standard texts in university politics courses 40 years ago, for example The Last Days of Europe. He has a long-standing pedigree as an author on the plight of jews, terrorism, and fascism, but a more interesting read would be America Alone, by Mark Steyn.

Citizen

1. Hedonistic
The principle of SD, once you've done your work, is "just pursue your own pleasure", but Muslims have duties (to Islam). So why should any of us be working to protect this society with its freedoms? Younger people are busy enjoying themselves, middle aged people may do it for their children if they can find time, and older people can afford to just let it go. Ultimately as system based on personal pleasure cannot win against another system which makes it the members duty to defend and spread that system.

2. Cowardly
The citizens of a modern SD are decadent and fearful, therefore they are simply not suited for a vicious fight. The average modern non-Muslim, especially in the media, will seek the cowardly way of avoiding any risk to their own person (from Islamist threats) rather than face up to any of the hard issues involved. They are also fearful of social disapproval, and will keep their heads low to avoid being picked up on the social radar for criticism and abuse.

Sayyid Qutb often called this decadence Jahiliyah in his book Milestones. Qutb's criticisms of the West are very pertinent and apposite; however it should be noted that Western society wasn't always like that. It was only 250 years ago that the American revolution occurred, bringing about a new nation. This revolution was a major step in the formation of the principles of secular democracy. People were prepared to fight a war in order to assert those principles; the founding fathers were born at a time when the culture of the British elite was at the height of foppish decadence. The American people may yet wake up and revolt again, in order to protect secular democracy from its impending demise.

The cowardice is so deep as to not even recognise itself. Thus people would rather kill the screeching canary in the coal mine, than heed its warnings and deal with the lethal gas.

3. Spoilt
People do not appreciate what they have always had. So todays citizens of the SD do not appreciate the Freedom they have inherited for free from their ancestors who fought for it. Therefore they do not work to protect it, and haven't even an awareness that they should be preserving it to pass on to their own descendants.

As a society, SD also do not remember what lands they have lost. Hence modern Western citizens have no awareness that the Christian world lost all of the Middle East, Persia, North Africa and Turkey. If it did remember, it would have unwound the Islamic takeover of those countries, when it took control of them in the 2nd World War. Instead, it merely handed them back to Islam, and allowed the persecution and legalised discrimination against non-Muslims to continue.

Muslims, on the other hand, are reminded to preserve the Islamic characteristics of their countries, will never forget land that was at one time Islamic (for example Israel or Andalusia/Spain), and will constantly push to re-conquer it.

4. Complexity
The freedom of SD is too complex and fragile for most intellectuals to understand and defend. Democracy consists of many implied facets: separation of church & state, separation of legislature, judiciary and executive, bicameral parliaments, mutable laws, universal human rights, freedom of speech, the right to dissent and the right to protest. Then the concept of a Republic with a Bill of Rights is a further refinement, to stop any possible tyranny by the majority over a minority. This is all an attempt to balance many different types of freedoms, that of the individual and that of the society with its Law Enforcement officers, that in the Private sphere and that in the Public sphere, that according to tradition and that according to current fashion.

But the problem is even harder than that. As Karl Popper said:
“Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them… We should therefore claim, in the name of tolerance, the right not to tolerate the intolerant. We should claim that any movement preaching intolerance places itself outside the law, and we should consider incitement to intolerance and persecution as criminal, in the same way as we should consider incitement to murder, or to kidnapping, or to the revival of the slave trade, as criminal.”

That balance between tolerance and intolerance, between free speech and speech which attempts to destroy free speech, between free election and parties which wish to destroy democracy - that balance needs to be distilled out with surgical precision and tight boundaries drawn around it. That is what I've tried to do with the first two of the 4 Freedoms. But even that is not the end of the story. As is explained at length here, the first two freedoms are the base underlying framework upon which any number of different democratic legal frameworks can be constructed, for example, the law of libel. But how you want to balance press freedom with privacy protection is yet another difficult choice.

Its difficult enough for a trained academic to defend this whole structure, never mind an ordinary citizen. This in itself can lead to a kind of intellectual fear of failing, such that people become afraid to try stand their ground in argument. This is understandable and we do not criticise them. That fear cannot be surmounted by just having guts alone. Its a perfectly reasonable fear that requires help by further training in argument.

Islam on the other hand, is much simpler, and with a small amount of training, easy to defend from within its own value system.

Society

5. Tribalism Works
We have lost the tribal bonds that used to bind us together. People fight for clear identities not vague concepts, and our pursuit of pluralism actually makes us weaker. As Osama bin Laden said:
"If you give people a choice between a strong horse and a weak horse, they will always choose the strong horse". Morality doesn't come into it, and Islam is currently the strong horse.

Cultures are bound together by relics of historical patterns, not by logic. We've gradually lost many of our our binding cultural artefacts, in order to streamline our society for the corporate machine, in the following forms:

May Day / St. George's Day / Christmas (but Spain has preserved its local festivals)

the non-working wife as 'home maker', always on site to look after the property and people

connection with family and community, because of relocation for job mobility

trade unions and working-men's clubs

Pubs used to be social centres, but taxataion, changes in technology and alcohol availability are destroying most of them

Muslims have kept their societal 'glue' because it is woven into the very fabric of islam. This is an important point because it means it is essential and not accidental. It is encapsulated, messaged and enforced in the following ways:

almost every other page of the koran is about distinguishing between muslims and non-muslims, and the latter are disparaged and to be punished for refusing islam (and this is enshrined in sharia law); muslims are explicitly told not to take jews and christians as their friends; islam prevents a muslim from criticising another muslim

halal meat reminds them daily who they are, and food taboos around clean/unclean are very difficult to unlearn (something like pork especially)

Islam set up its week and year to be different, for example with regular weekly Friday prayer together and yearly Ramadan performance and celebration.
Our week/calendar on the other hand, have almost entirely lost their association with christianity by becoming global (and applicable in non-chrisitan countries)

laws on marriage/parenting between muslims & non-muslims are designed to absorb people into the tribe; murder for apostasy is designed to stop people leaving the tribe.

inability to change or criticise islam is designed to keep the tribe united

identifying uniform for the elite / men, e.g. skull cap

identifying dress code for the subordinates / women, e.g. hijab or burqa

Muslims still live very close to their family, and 50-75% don't work, therefore can maintain family bonds: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/8054403/Britains-coping-classes-at-breaking-point.html

mosques act as social hubs and continue to expand, because even though Islamic praying isn't a joyful activity, there is a compulsion to go (assisted by family proximity and the shame culture).

6. Intimidation Works

Violence and intimidation can be used to silence the speakers, then the rest are easily out-argued.

SD has to maintain order to survive and for its institutions to function. Gangsterism only has to create disorder in society, then, out of the breakdown of society, the most cohesive group will emerge in control. This pattern is clearly visible in the so called 'Arab Spring', where the Muslim Brotherhood is gradually taking over control and imposing hard line Islamist policies to replace the initial freedom. This was also the clear pattern in the Islamic revolution in Iran.

For completeness, I should point out an exception in that Al Queda attempted to take control by the creation of chaos in Iraq, and failed. The US military and the Iraqi people managed to survive the onslaught of bombs and chaos that Al Queda managed to create. Whether Iraq can survive this strategy again when all the US troops have left, is another matter.

7. Intolerance Works
If you have a strong Tribe (5), then use Intimidation (6) and Intolerance (7) to eradicate the other splintered groups of a tolerant society, it is easy for the monoculturalism of Islam to wipe out the multiculturalism of SD.

The clearest example is that of Mohammed removing multi-culturalism from Saudi Arabia. The very multi-culturalism that allowed his intolerance to exist in the first place. The sequence was:

Mohammed started in Mecca and used its multi-cultural tolerance to create his new religion.

Mohammed moved to Medina and built his army.

Mohammed returned to Mecca, crushed the inhabitants, then destroyed the existing multi-culture with its 360 different idols, in order to impose his own monoculture.

8. Infiltration Works

The non-discrimination principle of SD means that, even those who plan to destroy the society, are allowed to take positions of power in it. The US apparently had Muslim Brotherhood advisers guiding policy in the Dept. of Homeland Security.

In the UK, entire areas like Tower Hamlets and Bradford West have fallen under the control of Islamist sympathisers like Lutfur Rahman and George Galloway, with no allegiance to any of the secular parties.

There have been many cases of Muslim police officers being convicted for criminality and fraud, and the notorious disputes of Dezir Ali must have cost the Metropolitan Police Force millions of pounds, apart from the demoralisation and waylaying of the police mission

Member of the House of Lords and convicted criminal Lord Ahmed threatened insurrection over Geert Wilders coming into the UK (10,000 muslims in Parliament Square) http://www.spectator.co.uk/melaniephillips/3344161/britain-capitulates-to-terror.thtml He then denied it and threatened legal action against The Spectator. Such legal action has not been forthcoming.

Fiyaz Mughal OBE, provides cover for muslim offences time and again: http://4freedoms.ning.com/group/uk/forum/topics/muslim-sponsored-report-edl-are-white-supremacists

We have no way of knowing how many Muslims in positions of power are quietly promoting an Islamist agenda. The Muslim head of the Religious Affairs dept of the BBC seems to have had some effect since he took office, but we have no oversight of all those internal meetings and memos he controls.

Such infiltration would not be permitted in islamic societies. The islamic party in Britain (Hizb ut Tahrir) has made it clear in their published documents, that when they take over, non-muslims would not be permitted to hold any high office." http://4freedoms.ning.com/group/theology/forum/topics/hizb-ut-tahir-s-constitution-a-dictatorship-where-non-muslims-hav

9. Erosion Works
Those in SD societies conceive of things in smaller timescales than muslims. We think in terms of 5 years (elections/governments), or at the most generations (overwhelmingly we are concerned about our offspring from birth to age 20, with little concern for them as adults, and relatively little concern for our grand-children, compared with our own offspring). Hence the erosion of SD values over time by gradual change to Islamic values, is not obvious enough to motivate action from its non-Muslims.

One of the religious aspects of Islam is that of a conquering and millenarian/salvationist dogma, which thinks in terms of hundreds of years. Those muslims alive now are disposable in the context of the larger project of jihad. The value of their life & death will be accounted for on the day of reckoning.

10. Reproduction Works
Currently, 11% of meat sales are Halal (and many Muslims do not bother to eat Halal meat) &13% of prison population is Muslim (and we should not assume that Muslims are more criminal than the rest of the population.

If we take this to be representative of the UK as a whole, and note that the muslim population is doubling every 10 years (through biological reproduction, spouse importation, and 'dependent relative' importation), then in a few decades Sharia Law will be simply voted in to replace secular law.
