In some ways, “Prey” is the most inflammatory of Hirsi Ali’s books. Her thesis is a straightforward one: the mass migration of men from misogynist Muslim cultures is a threat to the hard-won rights of women in Europe.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s latest offering, Prey: Immigration, Islam, and the Erosion of Women’s Rights, is an in-depth and superbly reported examination of a subject that Europe’s politicians, media, and law enforcement have been doing their best to ignore and even suppress—that of the victimization of women and girls by Muslim migrants who have been flooding into Europe for years, with a peak influx in 2015 triggering a continental crisis. Until now, the stories of the rapes, grooming gangs, and mass perpetration of sexual violence against European women in places like Cologne—where more than 1,200 women were sexually assaulted and 24 reported being raped during 2015 New Year’s Eve celebrations in Germany—have been sparsely and sporadically reported.

Hirsi Ali’s biography is worth noting, as her life experiences render her uniquely qualified to take on this subject. Born in 1969 in Mogadishu, Somalia, Hirsi Ali had lived in Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, and Kenya by the time she reached adulthood. At the age of five, her grandmother hired a man to subject her to female genital mutilation, a process she described in gut-wrenching detail in her memoir Infidel. In 1992, she fled to the Netherlands to escape a forced marriage; then worked as an interpreter with Somali women in asylum centers; earned a degree in political science from the University of Leiden; and became an outspoken critic of the treatment of women in Islamic societies. From 2003 to 2006, she served as a Dutch MP.

Famously, she worked with director Theo Van Gogh to produce the short film Submission in 2004. When he was murdered later that year by a Dutch Moroccan Islamist, the killer stabbed a death threat to Hirsi Ali into Van Gogh’s chest. Her criticisms of integration policy made her a target of progressives as well, and after a public debate about the validity of her Dutch citizenship over details on her asylum application, she relocated to the United States. She now serves as a research fellow at Stanford’s Hoover Institution and is the founder of the AHA Foundation. In addition to her two memoirs, Infidel and Nomad, she has also authored Heretic (2015) and The Challenge of Dawa (2017).

In some ways, Prey is the most inflammatory of them all. Hirsi Ali’s thesis is a straightforward one: the mass migration of men from misogynist Muslim cultures is a threat to the hard-won rights of women in Europe. Since 2015, nearly two million people have arrived illegally; three million since 2009. Two-thirds are male and 80% of those applying for asylum are under the age of 35. Millions of young men arriving in Europe from Muslim cultures is having an impact on the native populations, and it seems ludicrous that saying so is controversial.

It is to Hirsi Ali’s credit that Prey is as even-handed as it is—with this subject material, she could have written a truly incendiary book. She describes the “no-go zones” in major European cities, which women now avoid for fear of being harassed or worse. She does the painstaking detective work necessary to piece together the data on sexual violence—a 17% increase in rapes in France between 2017 and 2018; a 12% increase in Sweden in 2016; a 41% increase in Germany in 2017; a 11.8% increase in sexual offenses in Austria since 2009. In Denmark, non-Westerners made up two-fifths of rape convictions and “between a quarter and a third of groping convictions” despite making up less than 13% of the population.

And then there are the Rotherham rape gangs, which wracked up over 1,500 child victims while most authorities stayed silent for fear of being labeled racist; the mass sexual assaults in Cologne, for which only two men—a 26-year-old Algerian and a 21-year-old Iraqi—were convicted of sexual assault and each given one year probation; and a series of savage, sexually-motivated murders across the continent. These assaults have taken place in malls, fast food bathrooms, and in public. Sentences for the few perpetrators actually brought to justice are generally inconsequential, with the differing cultural values of the assailant sometimes specifically cited. Hirsi Ali says these light sentences actively encourage further offences, and some migrant men spread the word that European women are easy prey, while the consequences of getting caught are often just community service or a short stint in what they consider to be comfortable prison accommodation relative to those in their home countries.

There are many instances in Prey, however, where Hirsi Ali’s book comes across more as a damning indictment of the post-modern West rather than a critique of the values of Muslim migrant men. She highlights, for example, that many of the men have not derived their view of Western women exclusively from their Islamic background, but from the way women are portrayed in Western entertainment and violent pornography. Men raised on a diet of digital pornography, which predominantly features violence, sexual torture, and the degradation of women and girls, are increasingly likely to dehumanize women in their interactions with them—and this phenomenon in no way limited to men from non-Western backgrounds and cultures that repress women.

A growing mountain of evidence, highlighted by feminist scholars such as Dr. Gail Dines, indicates that compulsive consumption of pornography in the West now generally begins around adolescence and is shaping the way a generation of young men view women. A new sexual ideology is being transmitted globally, and several 2021 studies have already contributed to an emerging consensus that violent pornography is poison. In April, a study was published in the British Journal of Criminology that noted that sexual violence is ubiquitous in mainstream porn; researcher Fiona Vera-Gray told the BBC that this material has “eroticised non-consent” and is erasing “the boundary between sexual pleasure and sexual violence” for users. A March study by two Spanish academics stated bluntly that “pornography consumption by youth has been linked to…an increase in sexual aggression perpetration and victimization.”

In short, the eroticization of sexual violence is a global phenomenon perpetrated by the digital porn industry, with men of all cultures and backgrounds being groomed to see women as sexual outlets for increasingly ugly fantasies rather than as partners, peers, and potential leaders. Many Muslim men are being groomed to see women as targets by pornography produced in the West, and it informs their view of Western women when they arrive. If Western men entertain themselves with the degradation and violation of women, many migrant Muslim men seem to think, how can they be blamed for doing the same? Fused with the misogynist views endemic to their own cultures, the effect is a truly toxic ideology.

Hirsi Ali concurs. Pornography pushes “their prejudice against white women or women of the West,” she told me in an interview. “They see women of the West through the lens of pornography. For them, these women are beyond the pale. They don’t really see them as respectable, modest women, but unprotected, literally as prey. What pornography does is it reduces or even eliminates the empathy men should be feeling for women as fellow human beings. Women are objectified. I don’t think the men, when they terrorize and harm the women, really register that they are causing physical and psychological harm to the women. The level of empathy is stunted.”

Worse: men who have grown up on a diet of violent porn frequently find female fear and pain arousing. In fact, it is easy to see how Muslim migrants might conclude that post-Christian Western civilization has bankrupted itself. ‘Woke’ Westerners condemn their own civilization as irredeemably evil and racist, and many believe the West should suffer for her colonial sins. How can migrants and immigrants be blamed for declining to integrate into a civilization that has so utterly lost confidence in itself? How can a culture where authorities turn a blind eye to the systemic rape of young girls for fear of being called racist command respect, much less appreciation?

“The demonizing of Western civilization and white people in particular is extremely dangerous,” Hirsi Ali told me. “If you tell these migrant men that these white guys—they don’t use the term Western, they use the term white—are guilty of slavery, they are guilty of colonization, they are guilty of these wars—they are going to say it’s justified to rape their women, it’s justified to destroy their property. ‘They did it to us; we’re doing it to them. They deserve it.’ Western leaders today, especially those on the Left, feel that they are justified in doing nothing because they are atoning for the bad things that the West did in the past. I’ve said very often: you cannot right the wrongs of the past by being wrong over and over again. You allow the citizens of your country to be gang-raped? That can’t possibly be a good way of atoning for the past.” The high priests of woke, however, have their own perverse versions of penance.

“It’s wrong, in my view, to demonize Western civilization at a time when there are millions of people from other cultures pouring into Western society, looking for an alternative to radical Islam, Marxism, socialism, tribalism—a system littered with dead bodies, -isms that have failed,” she continued. “People come here looking for something to hold on to, the values of freedom, the rule of law, of justice systems that actually work—and you’re telling them: ‘It’s all wrong. It’s all rubbish. You can exploit it.’ What is the alternative to Western civilization? China? Radical Islamism? The autocratic Arab countries? Tribalism? Those are the alternatives, and none of them are good. Unfortunately, many people are coming to the West at a time when the children who inherited the legacy of the Enlightenment are rejecting it.”

In fact, it is difficult not to conclude that women have become collateral damage in our current culture wars. Progressives who loathe the West frequently dismiss the trends Hirsi Ali highlights in Prey, insisting that such observations can only be motivated by racial prejudice. In doing so, they have ceded the discussion of an incredibly pressing and sensitive issue to the populist Right, which has gained credibility in part by being the only political faction willing to acknowledge the lived experiences of many European women. This increases pressure on leftists to ramp up their denial, leaving many liberals feeling abandoned and politically homeless. Hirsi Ali interviewed many who couched every complaint with iterations of their anti-racists bona fides.

Rape victims cannot tell their stories, apparently, without persistently assuring their interlocutors that they feel no prejudice towards their rapists. Some liberals, in fact, have become so fearful of populist right-wing parties winning elections across Europe that one gets the sense that they are almost irritated by the sorts of revelations detailed by Hirsi Ali. In her 2020 book, Twilight of Democracy, historian Anne Applebaum was dismissive of voter fears about mass migration and its effects, giving little credence to the concerns of those facing these profound changes. Reading between the lines, it seemed that while Applebaum and liberals of like mind believe there is some validity to the sorts of concerns laid out in Prey, they simply believe that there are far worse threats and bigger fish to fry: ‘Gang rapes are awful; mass sexual assaults in European cities are awful—but have you heard of the Law and Justice Party’s judicial selections in Poland?’

“Everything that has to do with working class women, who are in many ways more vulnerable than the average woman, is seen as collateral damage,” Hirsi Ali told me. “That’s precisely what it is. I’m a globalist in the sense that I think globalization has been good for millions of people. I’ve benefited from it. But it does have unintended negative consequences, and those have to be addressed. The people who are affected should not be thrown under the bus, and that’s what some of the elites in Europe and America are doing—and they’re surprised when they find out these people can vote. The only people who are addressing the issues that impact the working class are the populists, so they vote for the populists. Why should you be surprised if you’re not offering an alternative? The elites should stop whining and whinging and start listening to people on the ground.”

It is difficult to read Prey and come away with any optimism. Hirsi Ali’s proposed solutions—from better integration policy to heightened surveillance—are well and good, but the problems she uncovers run far too deep to be addressed by politicians. At the heart of Hirsi Ali’s synopsis is the yawning spiritual vacuum left by the death of Christianity, with woke dogmatists, Islamists, and other religious practitioners rushing in to fill the void. The West is being challenged from many sides just after it has abandoned the moral framework that provided the answers to such questions, and what is left is weakness on one hand and ‘wokeness’ on the other. The weakness is what young migrant men wish to exploit; the ‘wokeness’ gives them virtual carte blanche to do so.

The decline of Christianity, Hirsi Ali told me, is at the root what ails the West. “If you eliminate Christianity, you leave a void,” she mused. “What fills that void?

People are looking for something to believe in, and in comes woke ideology. This woke ideology, if you pay close attention, has all the features of a religion. The orthodoxy, the rituals, the black and white and good and bad. It’s like Christianity with no redemption, no music, no sense of humor, no sense of irony. It’s a twisted, neo-Marxist faith. These are terrible people. But it’s filling a spiritual need, a religious need.”

What does the West have to offer a young Muslim man raised on a diet of American entertainment and violent pornography? What set of values does it have that can compete with—and conquer—his own? The Enlightenment has fallen on its own sword; liberalism will not defend herself; ‘wokeness’ scorns it all. The answer, then, is as impossible as it is obvious: the post-Christian West must be the pre-Christian West. The Western Man’s search for meaning must, in the eternal words of T.S. Eliot, lead him back to what he lost—to the inheritance his fathers gave away on his behalf:

“We shall not cease from exploration

And the end of all our exploring

Will be to arrive where we started

And know the place for the first time.”

How Can I Identify Infiltration?

There is no way to be certain about infiltration, which is part of why infiltration is so harmful to movement-building. Suspicion of infiltration severs trust, disrupts organizing, and can be very stressful. It must be navigated with caution. Law enforcement agencies have historically infiltrated political movements, but they have also engaged in a practice of disseminating false accusations against effective activists. Movement organizers have, over the years, identified some characteristics of undercover agents or infiltrators. For instance:

They may not have a backstory that “makes sense” – including sudden deeply held political or religious beliefs that do not reflect the common trajectory of everyone else in the movement.

They may quickly volunteer for tasks that provide access to your group's important meetings and papers, such as financial records, membership lists, minutes and confidential files.

In some contexts, undercover agents and informants have encouraged or urged the use of violence or illegal tactics and accuse others who resist those tactics as being cowards, or otherwise sow discord that distracts from the
movement’s goals.

An undercover agent or informant may also have no obvious source of income over a period of time or have more money available than their job should pay.

Just because a person fits these characteristics does not mean they are an undercover agent or informant.

Use a lot of caution and do not publicly accuse someone of being an agent or informant unless you have gathered substantial evidence against them.

If somebody bothers you, distance yourself from them.

If you think they might be making others vulnerable, consider raising your concerns with trusted leadership or other activists.

You can try to obtain information on a suspected agent or informant's background.

Check with organizations in areas the suspected agent lived in the past to see if anyone can vouch for them.

See what you can turn up on the internet or on social media.

Public records such as credit reports, voter registration and mortgages contain a wealth of information, including past and present addresses.

If they are available, you might want to check listings of local police academy graduates; but, remember that the suspected person may not be using her/his/their real name.

The Democrats and like-minded people do not want this sort of history taught to the children of the USA and to the world. The only history they want to propagate is: 'America is evil' history or 'America is no different than other country' history. The Commission was a response to the widely promoted 1619 Project, which is a leftist attempt to shape the past in order to fashion the future in Marxist fashion, like Howard Zinn and his 'The People's History of the United States.'

Certainly the prize for the worst idea of all time has to go to Marxism and its political embodiment, Communism, which resulted in the death of over 100,000,000 people in the twentieth century. 3 Today, Marxism lives on only in the minds of academics, who live quite comfortably under capitalism. 4
The second worst idea could well be egalitarianism. 5 The dictionary says it means, “a belief in human equality.” That idea might not be objectionable if it were limited equality before God 6 or before the law, 7 as in “all men are created equal,” but it is now applied to genetically-controlled traits, that no population differs genetically from any other population, except in trivial differences in appearance. 8
But obvious racial differences in appearance are only a small percentage of the number of racial differences, and whether they are “trivial” or not depends upon who is making that decision; what is of no importance to one person may be vital to another. 9 As we have seen, egalitarianism must ignore some genetic differences as “trivial,” though the line that divides the trivial from the important is hard to draw. Since, clearly, man’s early ancestors were not the equal of modern man, egalitarians must divide our ancestors into those who were our equals (“Homo erectus?) and those earlier in our lineage who were not. The living are all supposedly equal and the long-ago deceased are all presumably unequal, but the vast humanity in between is anyone’s guess. How far back in man’s lineage is it necessary to go to reach the unequal, where differences are no longer “trivial”? And, no matter where the line is drawn, some on one side will be more like those on the other side, and those near the boundary will differ in ways so minuscule as to be of no significance.

There are a number of other problems with egalitarianism. If there are no significant genetic differences between populations, then:

“voluntarily segregated all-white and all-black societies would be equal and there would be no ethical or logical argument against such societies. It is only if the races are not equal that arguments (not necessarily valid arguments) can be made for integration or the immigration of one race into the homeland of another race; and

“diversity cannot be ‘celebrated’ and it cannot be a ‘strength’ as there is no racial diversity of any significance.” 10

Some ideologies tell you what reality should be (i.e., how we should live our lives) but others tell you what reality is. An example of the former is modern day Christianity, other than anti-evolution fundamentalists, and an example of the latter is the old Roman Catholic Church, which insisted that the sun revolved around the earth. The ideologists who tell us what reality is typically insist that it must be that way and become quite agitated when reality doesn’t behave the way it is supposed to, and angry at those who disturb their equanimity by pointing this out to them. Egalitarianism is such an ideology. It holds that all populations are genetically equal, but when reality refuses to cooperate, its adherents desperately insist that it must be so, that somehow a reality in which it is not so is not possible. 11

Egalitarianism, and any ideology that conflicts with reality, is doomed from the beginning though, like a zombie, once killed it refuses to remain dead because it fulfills a psychological need. Examples abound. Communism held that people could be educated to sacrifice for the state, and that once they were transformed, their children would inherit this admirable quality. They were not and they did not. Feminism, the fatherless child of egalitarianism, held that the sexes, including confused and undifferentiated sexes, are genetically equal and therefore interchangeable, except for giving birth and nursing, where nature refused to go along. Thus, any suggestions that women cannot compete with men at sports and are less suited for careers in the military, sciences, or in math, are met with fury. 12

Not only women, but anyone who does not measure up, including the handicapped and uninvited non-English speakers from other countries, must be raised to their inherently equal abilities by giving them the special teachers and facilities needed to let a thousand flowers bloom. Anyone incapable of distancing himself from reality who points out that, despite these efforts, people are still not equal, must be silenced, for they threaten the desperately-held beliefs of the emotionally-controlled equalizers. Every ideology that is at war with reality, as egalitarianism is, must ultimately fail; the only question is how much harm it will do before it does.

Man’s ideological conflicts with reality arise from his anthropocentrism, his arrogant view that the universe revolves around him. Egalitarianism is an anthropocentric ideology – it is based on the premise that man is not like other animals, each evolving differently to adapt to a different environment, but was somehow miraculously spared the “try and die” gauntlet of evolution. Unlike animals, who fight for territories and mates, all human populations are supposedly capable of living in harmony in the same territory, cheerfully yielding to those who threaten the survival of their alleles. But the reality is that the same biological laws that constrain other animals also apply to us.

As cheerleaders have long known, people who believe that their own group is superior to other groups, even if it is not, are more successful than people who believe their group is the pits. 13 Greater success is an excellent reason for having a group identity and for favoring one’s own group.

There is a subtle conflict between egalitarianism and man’s nature as a group animal. Egalitarianism is not just an intellectual ideology – that people are genetically equal – but, in order to gain adherents, it must heavily rely upon the emotion of empathy. Normal people (i.e., not sociopaths) identify with others and can and do feel what other people are suffering. That feeling provides a basis for egalitarianism’s intellectual case. But we feel empathy only because we are group animals;14 our feeling of empathy is there to control us and induce us to sacrifice for the benefit of our group ("Group Selection," Chap. 5) so that our group can successfully compete with other groups – that is its biological reason d’être. If we were not group animals, we would have no need to feel empathy. Indeed, empathy would be maladaptive and would soon disappear because those who felt it would reduce their own chances of reproducing and increase the chances of those who lacked it to reproduce, i.e., everyone would be a psychopath. Egalitarianism, however, needs that emotion to play a different and conflicting role, namely to sacrifice for other groups to the detriment of our own group. Thus, empathy is “bad” for egalitarianism when it is adaptive and does what it evolved to do – increase ethnocentricity, but “good” when it is maladaptive and does the opposite of what it evolved to do – reduce ethnocentricity by making us identify with people of other ethnies.

For millions of years, man and his predecessors lived in small groups that competed with other groups. Man evolved when individuals in his group became better adapted for surviving and reproducing not only as individuals, but also as a group. Group-orientated behavior is deeply ingrained in man’s genome; ideology can suppress it, but it will not remove it. Even if two groups are genetically equal (and races are not), they are not equal socially because the members of each group do not see the members of other groups as their equals – the members of one group are not interchangeable with members of another group, so they are not equal in the eyes of the only people who count, the members of the two groups. 15 Egalitarianism is an ideology that is at war with biology, and nature’s creations cannot long survive following a self-destructive ideology. 16 Biology tells man to fight and defeat his competitors. Egalitarianism tells man, at least if he is white, to welcome his competitors and help them triumph over him.

And how will those non-whites who benefited from the white egalitarian’s hara-kiri remember him? As a noble creature who would rather go extinct than forego his ideology and Christ-like morality? No, if he is remembered at all it will be as a fool who was conned into casually tossing away 3½ billion years of evolution to benefit those who were less adapted to successfully contribute to modern civilization, thereby setting back the entire human species.

In 1950, the hooligans at the United Nations officially declared that “all the races are equal in intelligence.” Although losing contact with reality is a psychosis, let’s be more generous and say that the statement is due to either ignorance or deception. That all human populations, living in vastly different environments all over the world for at least hundreds of thousands of years should, just coincidentally, end up with exactly the same intelligence, though they differ in thousands of other traits is contradicted by every intelligence test ever given to them. Are all dog breeds also equally intelligent?

Every teacher of an integrated class, every social worker, every policeman on the beat, soon learns that the races are not interchangeable. No one denies that genetics makes dog breeds differ in intelligence and behavior, but it is a modern day sin to suggest that the same is true of human races. Although there is massive evidence (Section II) that the “Mysterious Black-White Gap” between black and white achievement is due to genetic racial differences, the egalitarians insist it is environmental – whites simply have a superior environment. But to blame whites for not giving blacks the same environment that whites have created for themselves implies that, without whites, blacks are incapable of creating that environment. Since blacks who have never seen a white person (e.g., some Africans) achieve even less than blacks who suffer under white racism, 17 that implication is no doubt true.

The logic of the egalitarian is that since everyone is genetically equal, the fact that everyone is not equal in wealth, accomplishments, or in other ways means that their environments are not equal; to an egalitarian, physical racial differences (most of Section II) are trivial and of no significance and therefore behavioral racial differences (Chapter 12) must be environmental, not genetic. Thus, equalizing the environments of blacks and whites will make everyone equally intelligent, civilized, and well-behaved. When it does not, a more sinister source of inequality is sought – the whites must be deliberately, or at least unconsciously, oppressing the blacks. 18 This leads to hostility towards the productive whites, who must be at least insensitive, if not wicked, and sympathy for and glorification of their less productive black victims.

Whenever a minority politician is elected to office, or achieves any position of power, he is quite explicit in stating that he wants to help his people, and everyone finds that normal and acceptable, and even commendable. 19 And, when he does help his people, he helps propagate his own alleles, because his people have more of his alleles than do other people; bias is adaptive. 20 But such adaptive behavior is not permissible for whites, who are expected to watch their own people lose out without a whimper.

The best strategy for elected politicians is usually to offend no one. Politicians fear divisive issues like vampires fear sunlight. Ethnic strife forces them to take sides, which means losing large blocks of votes no matter which side they take. Using hate laws and censorship to stamp out those who stir up ethnic conflict makes getting re-elected so much easier. Similarly, the mass media has little to gain and much to lose from publicizing material that is insulting to some of its viewers, readers, and advertisers. Recently, for example, the U.S. press and television refused to show cartoons of the prophet Mohammed that had sparked world-wide protests by Muslims.

Egalitarians should support democracy, especially for multicultural nations because, if everyone is genetically equal, everyone should have one vote. However, one can only imagine what would happen if the last remnants of the white majority voted as a block in their own racial interests, the way various racial minorities do. 21 When voters vote as blocks, one vote is not one equal portion of political influence, even in those rare occasions when influence is not for sale; eventually democracies become troops of hyenas fighting over a dead carcass. The only solutions are a dictatorship, e.g., Tito in Yugoslavia or Hussein in Iraq, who can dish out the rewards and punishments needed to hold a multicultural nation together, or libertarianism, where the government is so small that it has no loot to dish out; the latter, however, is unlikely to ever be adopted as no one wants to forego what he is now getting.

Certainly, a democracy is maladaptive for a genetically cohesive majority, as it reduces their genetic fitness. It would be far wiser for that majority to limit voting to (mostly) their own members, as the Jews in Israel have done. To the egalitarians this is, of course, the most blatant form of racism, but for the white majority the choice is racism or extinction. The minorities can always go to or form their own countries, where they are the majority, and run it as they wish.

(Genetic) egalitarianism is based not on rationality, but on the Kum-bay-yah sentimentality of universal brotherhood and love. Any facts contrary to those feel-good, but unrealistic, emotions, e.g., genetic differences, must be denied and suppressed because they are just too upsetting. Egalitarianism is stress-relief for the reality-challenged.

One can imagine an egalitarian going to a race track and saying to the first person he meets, “You know, all those horses would be equally as fast if they had just had the same quality of food and training.” Blank stare. “I think some of the horses lose because people think they can’t win and the horses believe it,” he adds. Another blank stare. His last statement is, “Horse racing is really just plain wrong because it makes the horses that lose feel bad about themselves.” Yet, when he makes the same points about people, hundreds of billions of dollars chase his every word.

Egalitarianism is a reckless experiment promoted by rebellious teenage minds, a bet of the entire future of our species, based on only the arrogance of those who will brook no challenge to their ideology. When the experiment is finally complete, and human diversity has been replaced by a single mongrelized breed incapable of maintaining a modern civilization, it will be too late to recover what we once had.

An argument can be made that sharing resources, i.e., “economic equality,” is, or at least was, somewhat genetically-induced and adaptive because when people lived in small groups their survival depended upon sharing food and other resources, though the sharing would have been mostly limited to close relatives since almost everyone in the group was a blood relative. Today, the much stronger case is that economic equality, especially when it is coerced, is maladaptive as it punishes those who work and save and rewards those who are lazy and impulsive, thus giving everyone an incentive to not produce. Reproductive success requires consumption, which in turn requires production. Back

9. One can say that some values are harmful (e.g., smoking) and others beneficial (e.g., exercise), but it is not possible to objectively show that one should choose particular values because a “should” cannot be deduced from an “is.” (David Hume’s “Is-Ought” argument, Chap. 36). For that reason, although differences in people can be labeled “trivial,” it is not possible to say that trivial differences should have no effect on one’s choices. (Fuerle, 1986). Back

10. (MacLaren, A., internet post, “When Logic Fails,” Mar. 2, 2006). “Ironically, denial of the reality of race often prefaces a denunciation of race bias, with little explanation given of how people can respond to a trait that no one possesses and no one understands. It should be obvious as well that repudiating race forbids advocacy of racial preferences, although few critics of the race concept have faulted affirmative action on this account.” (Levin, 1997, p. 19). Blacks who blame their failures on the resistance of whites to integration implicitly concede that they are not genetically equal to whites because they are saying that whites can succeed without blacks, but blacks cannot succeed without whites. Back

"Diversity training" also requires a contradiction: "To better treat one another as individuals, we must stop seeing people as individuals, and instead acknowledge their identities as members of a particular group." It is also illogical to deny the reality of race yet admit the reality of breeds of dogs, as breeds are no different than races. Not long afterwards, the leftist professors gave Summers the boot and, not long after that, several papers were published confirming that the female brain is different from the male mind, something already well known to those of us who passed Puberty 101. Back

13. (See Chapter 8). Perhaps he is not familiar with the journal, Ethnicity and Health? Back

17. To many egalitarians, the term “white racism” is redundant as they believe that only whites are capable of racism. In a predominately white country, anti-racism and multiculturalism mean attacking whites and their culture. “… people of color cannot be racists… “ (2007 program at U. of Delaware, Unruh, B., “University defends teaching students all whites ‘racist’,” World Net Daily, Nov. 1, 2007). Back

18. “The educated negro of today is a failure, not because he meets insuperable difficulties in life, but because he is a negro.” H.L.
President Obama, like many nowadays, think it’s fair to equate Islamist terrorism with the medieval Crusades. It’s not.

Greg Scandlen By Greg Scandlen
MARCH 4, 2015

In light of President Obama’s recent remarks comparing the brutality of the Islamic State to the Crusades, it might be time to take a fresh look at those events. Were they really the one-sided Dark Ages barbarism we have been taught? Were they an early manifestation of Western imperialism and global conquest?

In his landmark book, “God’s Battalions” (HarperOne 2009), Baylor University social sciences professor Rodney Stark suggests otherwise. It is a well-researched chronicle, including 639 footnotes and a bibliography of about 300 other works, yet reads like an adventure story full of military strategy and political intrigue.

What Prompted the Crusades

He begins in the final years of Mohammed and describes how a newly united Arab people swept through (Zoroastrian) Persia and the (Orthodox Christian) Byzantine- controlled areas of Syria, Palestine, Egypt, and North Africa. (Byzantine refers to the Greek-speaking eastern remainder of the Roman Empire.) Eventually Arabs took over control of the Mediterranean islands, most of Spain, and the southern part of Italy, and even reached as far as 150 miles outside of Paris before being turned back by the Franks, or early French.

The Muslims were brutal in their conquered territories.

The Muslims were brutal in their conquered territories. They gave pagans a choice of converting to Islam or being killed or enslaved. Jews and Christians (other People of the Book) were usually but not always treated somewhat better, and allowed to retain their beliefs but under conditions of Sharia subjugation.

But the Muslim-held territories were not monolithic. Stark writes:

Perhaps the single most remarkable feature of the Islamic territories was the almost ceaseless internal conflict; the intricate plots, assassinations, and betrayals form a lethal soap opera. North Africa was frequently torn by rebellions and intra-Islamic wars and conquests. Spain was a patchwork of constantly feuding Muslim regimes that often allied themselves with Christians against one another.

Not surprisingly, there was intense Christian resistance and determination to take back lost territories. Especially effective were the Normans and the Franks in Spain and Italy.

The Golden Middle Ages Belonged to Europeans

Western scholars have often characterized this clash of cultures as an Islamic Golden Age versus a European Dark Age, but Stark demolishes this as a myth. He says the best of the Islamic culture was appropriated from the people Muslims conquered—the Greeks, Jews, Persians, Hindus, and even from heretical Christian sects such as the Copts and Nestorians. He quotes E.D. Hunt as writing, “the earliest scientific book in the language of Islam [was a] treatise on medicine by a Syrian Christian priest in Alexandria translated into Arabic by a Persian Jewish physician.” Stark writes that Muslim naval fleets were built by Egyptian shipwrights, manned by Christian crews, and often captained by Italians. When Baghdad was built, the caliph “entrusted the design of the city to a Zoroastrian and a Jew.” Even the “Arabic” numbering system was Hindu in origin.

And, while it is true that the Arabs embraced the writings of Plato and Aristotle, Stark comments,

However, rather than treat these works as attempts by Greek scholars to answer various questions, Muslin intellectuals quickly read them in the same way they read the Qur’an – as settled truths to be understood without question or contradiction…. Attitudes such as these prevented Islam from taking up where the Greeks had left off in their pursuit of knowledge.

Meanwhile, back in Europe was an explosion of technology that made ordinary people far richer than any people had ever been. It began with the development of collars and harnesses that allowed horses to pull plows and wagons rather than oxen, doubling the speed at which people could till fields. Plows were improved, iron horseshoes invented, wagons given brakes and swivel axels, and larger draft horses were bred. All this along with the new idea of crop rotation led to a massive improvement in agricultural productivity that in turn led to a much healthier, larger, and stronger population.

Technology was also improving warfare with the invention of the crossbow and chain mail. Crossbows were far more accurate and deadly than conventional archery, and could be fired with very little training. Chain mail was almost impervious to the kind of arrows in use throughout the world. Mounted knights were fitted with high-back saddles and stirrups that enabled them to use more force in charging an opponent, and much larger horses were bred as chargers, giving the knights a height advantage over enemies. Better military tactics made European armies much more lethal. Stark writes:

It is axiomatic in military science that cavalry cannot succeed against well-armed and well-disciplined infantry formations unless they greatly outnumber them…. When determined infantry hold their ranks, standing shoulder to shoulder to present a wall of shields from which they project a thicket of long spears butted in the ground, cavalry charges are easily turned away; the horses often rear out of control and refuse to meet the spears.

In contrast, Muslim warriors were almost exclusively light cavalry, riding faster but lighter horses bareback with little armor, few shields, and using swords and axes. Their biggest advantage was their use of camels, which made them much more mobile than foot soldiers and gave them the ability to swoop in and out of the desert areas to attack poorly defended cities.

Muslims Slaughter, Rape, and Pillage

These differences provided Crusader armies with huge advantages, but what would prompt hundreds of thousand Europeans to leave their homes and travel 2,500 miles to engage an enemy is a desert kingdom—especially after the Muslim conquest of Europe had been turned back?

In 638 Jerusalem surrendered to Muslim invaders, and mass murders of Christian pilgrims and monks became commonplace.
There had been long-festering concern about the fate of Christian pilgrims to the Holy Land. After his conversion to Christianity in the early 300s, the Roman Emperor Constantine built the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on the site of what was believed to be Jesus’ tomb, and other churches in Bethlehem and on the Mount of Olives. These sites prompted a growing number of European pilgrims to visit the Holy Land, including Saint Jerome, who lived in Bethlehem for the last 32 years of his life as he translated the Bible from Greek and Hebrew into Latin. By the late fifth century, Stark reports, more than 300 hostels and monasteries offered lodging to pilgrims in Jerusalem alone.

But in 638 Jerusalem surrendered to Muslim invaders, and mass murders of Christian pilgrims and monks became commonplace. Stark includes a list of select atrocities in the eight and ninth centuries, but none worse than the some 5,000 German Christians slaughtered by Bedouin robbers in the tenth century.

Throughout this period, control of Palestine was contested by several conflicting Muslim groups. Stark writes, “In 878 a new dynasty was established in Egypt and seized control of the Holy Land from the caliph in Baghdad.” One hundred years later, Tariqu al-Hakim became the sixth caliph of Egypt and initiated an unprecedented reign of terror, not just against Christians but against his own people as well. He burned or pillaged some 30,000 churches, including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the tomb beneath it.

Soon enough, newly converted Turkish tribes came out of the north to seize Persia and Baghdad (by 1045) and press on to Armenia, overrunning the city of Ardzen in 1048, where they murdered all the men, raped the women, and enslaved the children. Next they attacked the Egyptians, in part because the Turks were Orthodox Sunnis and the Egyptians were heretical Shiites. While the Turks did not succeed in overthrowing the Egyptians, they did conquer Palestine, entering Jerusalem in 1071. The Turks promised safety to the residents of Jerusalem if they surrendered the city, but broke this promise and slaughtered the population. They did the same in Ramla, Gaza, Tyre, and Jaffa.

Emperor Alexius Pleads for Help

Finally, they threatened Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire. Emperor Alexius Comnenus wrote to Pope Urban II in 1095, begging for help to turn back the Turks. This was remarkable given the intense hostility between the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches. Perhaps the pope saw an opportunity to unite or at least reduce tensions between the two Christian churches, but he responded with a call to create an army that would go to the Middle East.

Without ongoing support from Europe, the Crusaders could not survive constant attacks from the Muslims.

I am not going to regurgitate all the battles of the Crusades themselves. It is a fascinating history well worth studying in part for its parallels and lessons for today. Let’s just say that the Crusaders were extremely effective militarily, often defeating far larger Muslim armies, despite having traveled some 2,500 miles into an alien desert climate. Their biggest enemies were disease, starvation, and political betrayal. Plus, the Crusades were expensive and home countries grew weary of paying the taxes needed to support them (sound familiar?)

The Crusaders ended up establishing their own kingdoms in the Holy Land, which lasted for about 200 years or, as Stark notes, almost as long as the United States has existed; but without ongoing support from Europe they could not survive constant attacks from the Muslims.

How the Crusades Were Different from Military Action of the Day

So, what to make of all this?

The current idea that Jews in Israel are usurping the rights of indigenous people is nonsense. This has always been a hotly contested area. In the Old Testament, the Jews wrested control from the Canaanites, then were overrun by the Assyrians, then the Babylonians, then the Persians, then the Greeks, then the Romans. The Romans of Jesus’ time were displaced by the Greek Byzantine Empire, then replaced by the Arabs, then the Egyptians, then the Turks, and finally by the British. For most of human history the wealth of a society was created by conquest and plunder. It is hardly unique to Christians, and certainly not to Jews.

The Crusaders were unique in that they did not seek to plunder or enslave.

Actually, the Crusaders were unique in that they did not seek to plunder or enslave. They didn’t even try to forcibly convert anyone to Christianity. Their sole interest was to protect the pilgrims and Christian holy sites. They sometimes sacked cities that refused to provide food to a hungry army, but they didn’t take riches back to Europe. There were few riches to be found. Rather than exploiting indigenous resources to benefit Europe, Europe sent money and resources to the Middle East. Pilgrims were quite lucrative for host countries, just as tourism is today.

War was a nasty and brutal business at the time, and had been for all of recorded history. Cities fortified themselves as protection against invading armies. A siege of a city meant surrounding the area and cutting off supplies until the population surrendered, often by starving. In the Bible, II Kings 6:24-33 relates the story of the siege of Samaria, in which two starving women agree to kill and eat their sons.

The rule of war at the time was that, if a city surrendered, the population would be spared, but if it resisted and the invading army had to take it by force all the inhabitants would be killed or enslaved. But Stark notes that Muslim armies often violated even this rule—promising sanctuary, then slaughtering the population that surrendered. (Before we get too smug and condescending about the savagery of these ancients, let’s not forget the rocket bombing of London, the firebombing of Dresden, and the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki a mere 70 years ago.)

Muslim armies often promised sanctuary, then slaughtered the population that surrendered.
One way in which Muslim fighters today have advanced over their forebears is that during the Crusades they did not adopt new tactics to counter the technological advantage of the Europeans. They never used crossbows or shielded infantry, even after several hundred years of fighting. Today, Muslim warriors quickly evolve to make the most of Western technology, although they still never seem to develop anything of their own.

An Enduring Clash Between Inquiry and Submission

One final thought on this. As Stark indicates above, there is in too many Muslim countries a sense of obedience that precludes robust debate or new ideas, let alone technological innovation. In his classic, “The World is Flat,” Thomas Friedman quotes Osama bin Laden as saying,

It is enough to know that the economy of all Arab countries is weaker than the economy of one country that had been part of our (Islamic) world when we used to truly adhere to Islam. That country is the lost Andalusia. Spain is an infidel country, but its economy is stronger that our economy because the ruler there is accountable. In our countries, there is no accountability or punishment, but there is only obedience to the rulers and prayers of long life for them. (pp. 400-401)

Friedman confirms that this is based on a 2002 report, the first Arab Human Development Report. This report, written by Arabs, found that Spain had a larger gross domestic product than all 22 Arab states combined!

I think Stark is closer to the mark than bin Laden. The problem is a cultural way of thinking that starts with the Qur’an and the Prophet and emphasizes unquestioning obedience. The very name of the religion, Islam, means “submission.” The thinking of bin Laden that emphasizes punishing poor rulers is a complete misunderstanding how progress is made. European cultures place a high value on questioning everything, even the divinity of Jesus Christ. Certainly there have been exceptions to this, but in the sweep of history it is an unmistakable trait.

So we have perhaps the starkest conflict of worldviews imaginable: on one hand, a robust and virtually unlimited spirit of inquiry, and on the other a fervent dedication to universal obedience and submission. How this plays out is the story of our times.

The End of the World As We Know It

Reissued as an Urgent Warning

By: Prof. Paul Eidelberg

The title of this article is the subtitle of Mark Steyn’s book America Alone (2008), a book that should be read by every American!

Americans need to know that the economic and political survival of their country depends very much on Europe, and Europe is approaching the abyss. The single most important fact about Europe today is it is rapidly aging and declining population. Unless this trend is reversed, Europe will soon be semi-Islamic.

For a nation to maintain a stable population – no growth and no decline – it needs a fertility rate of 2.1 live births per woman. Whereas America has a 2.1fertility rate, Europe, a whole has a rate of only 1.38. Spain, with a 1.1 fertility rate, is halving every generation.

In the major urban centers of France, of those aged 20 and under, about 45 percent are Muslim. France is self-destructing. So is Russia, the world’s largest country. With a 1.14 fertility rate, there may be only 50 million Russians at the end of the century. Large areas of Russia will slide into the Islamic world. As Steyn puts it, Europe is “going out of business.”

Europe’s social democracies, with their cradle-to-grave welfare programs, are going bankrupt. By assuming all the responsibilities of adulthood – health care, child care, care of the elderly – the State has effectively severed its citizens from humanity’s primal instincts, including self-preservation. As Europe gets older and more childless, it has to import more foreign workers, mostly Muslim Arabs from North Africa.

These Muslims are not especially productive. A large percentage of Muslims are on social welfare, and they also predominate in Europe’s prisons. Europe’s future is dismal. What are the causes of this decay?

To begin with, Christianity in Europe is virtually dead. Life is meaningless, so why have children. Hedonism is rampant. Multiculturalism has eroded national pride even in France, Germany, and Spain. As I warned far back in a 1978 article published in the Congressional Record, the university-bred doctrine of moral relativism has been especially subversive. Europe’s political and intellectual elites have lost any solid sense of right and wrong. They are so mired in nihilism and multiculturalism that they cannot understand that at stake here is the end of European civilization.

Imagine French literature and culture, gone; German literature and culture, gone; Russian literature and culture, gone. They will disappear with the Islamification of Europe. In the home of humanism, humanism is dying.

Here is an astonishing example cited by Steyn: Earlier this year, Spain’s ruling Socialist Party introduced a bill in parliament legislating that apes – apes! – be included in “the category of persons, and that they are given the moral and legal protection that currently are only enjoyed by human beings”! The party’s argument was that humans in Spain share about 98 percent of their genes with chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans. No wonder Spain has a fertility rate of only 1.1.

But how did Spanish socialists gain power? Well, on March 11, 2004, three days before the Spanish elections, a series of terrorist train bombings in Madrid killed more than 250 people. On election day, the voters tossed out the government that had been supporting the U.S. in Iraq and handed it over to the Socialists. It was this new government that introduced the bill to endow apes with the rights of human beings. Notice, however, that it was Muslim terrorists that brought this government to power.

Europe’s Muslim Arab population is increasing geometrically, and they don’t integrate. The most popular baby boy’s name in much of Europe is Mohammad. If you are Muslim – Steyn says if you are “Islamist” – “you can lie, cheat, steal, rape, and kill women and children, so long as you are doing it for Allah and his victory over infidels.” Islam thus provides would-be criminals with a license to steal and kill. The present author wonders how many felons become Muslims to cover their evil inclinations and avoid punishment?

With few exceptions, Muslims reject the customs and laws of their host country. Nevertheless, their votes count and are sought. Government officials, whether obtuse or afflicted with multiculturalism, magnify Muslim power by failing to enforce monogamy laws. Since Muslims can have four wives, their birthrate is seven times that of Europeans. Some demographers say Europe will be dominated by Muslims in 20 years. Europe, mired in moral decay and appeasement, is committing suicide.

Finland’s prime minister said in 2002 that “the European Union must not take up arms at any occasion in order to defend its own interests.”

What about sturdy England? Alas, the teaching of moral relativism during the past few decades has enfeebled and corrupted English society. In fact, relativism has metamorphosed into moral reversal, as witness the anti-Israel reportage of the BBC and The Guardian, where the Jewish victims of Arab terror appear as the villains. England’s judicial system has also been tainted. The courts mollycoddle Arab criminals and terrorists as “victims” of so-called “oppressive” majorities. London has become a breeding ground for global jihad, thanks to the permissiveness of the courts.

And so the U.S. is losing its NATO allies. In the UN General Assembly in 2003, the members of the European Union voted against the U.S. position 54.5 percent of the time! America is alone.

Unfortunately, European decadence is evident in the U.S. Multiculturalism and relativism dominate American universities. Compounding this subversion is the pernicious influence of Saudi Arabia. Saudi money subsidizes the Middle East programs of many American universities. No wonder American campuses have become hotbeds of anti-Americanism and anti-Semitism if not breeding grounds for Islamic jihad. The same may be said of countless mosques across America financed by Saudi Arabia – a totalitarian regime that was mollified by the Obama White House.

America’s elected officials willfully refrain from enlightening the American people about their enemies. And so, despite 9/11, Americans still fail to take Islam seriously. Notice the opposition to ethnic profiling and the drivel about Muslim “moderates,” who deafen us with their silence about the so-called hijackers of their religion. No doubt there are Muslims that deplore jihad. But what is of strategic importance is this: experts estimate that of the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims, at least 150 million, and perhaps more than 750 million, support the jihad agenda!

Leading this agenda is Iran, the patron of Hezbollah, with branches in more than 20 countries including the U.S. Iran also finances Hamas, which has sleeper cells in America. Given America’s porous borders, who knows how many suitcase bombs these jihadists may possess or obtain.

In any event, Iranian nukes will soon be able to hit not only Tel Aviv but also London, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, and Rome. Given Europe’s addiction to appeasement and the entrenchment of Muslims in these and other European capitals, it will not be difficult for Iran to hasten the Islamification of the Continent.

At stake is the American way of life. Since UN resolutions and economic sanctions will not stop Iran’s nuclear program, it is the sacred duty of President Trump to initiate whatever military actions are necessary to eliminate this existential threat.

This done, the President must galvanize the American people in support of his actions. To gain and sustain their support, he must clearly define the political, cultural and religious nature of the enemy. He must anticipate and disarm his inevitable detractors by naming well-known personalities who have been threatened or murdered or placed under police protection for revealing the truth about Islam’s ambition to overrun the world by means of demography, conversion, and technology. Every passing day increases the danger and renders its elimination more difficult.

The President must show that Islam’s contempt for “infidels” is a denial of the sanctity of human life. Even the Nazis did not use their children as human bombs. The President must, therefore, show that Islam is the greatest threat to liberal democracy and the most cherished values of Western Civilization.

One last word. Few people grasp the full significance of 9/11. 9/11 was the greatest morale-booster of Islam in 1,000 years. 9/11 restored the confidence of the Muslim world – a world burning with envious hatred of the West. 9/11 showed ambitious Muslims that the “Great Satan,” despite its military superiority, is vulnerable and can be conquered. By restoring the pride of Muslims everywhere, 9/11 heightened Islam’s ambition to conquer the world.
--
h/t
https://www.facebook.com/amilimani

A Word from the Horse’s Mouth: Islam Will Blow Up Our Society

By Alexander ShahDateline, Berlin, Germany – 2017:

If out of all this doom and gloom that emerges out of the very sober assessment of the situation in Europe going forward – as it is in the mind of an intelligent Algerian dissident – himself a lapsed renegade Muslim who cherishes the values that made the West – then it is this: today still the majority of Germans believe that Islam does not belong to Germany – according to a recent poll, 61 percent represent this position. Only 22 percent disagree. But this is poor solace when we take into account the spiritually or intellectually lukewarm attitude towards defending these values by the White European inheritors of the Western Civilization. They do not wish to defend their inheritance. They are too busy pleasing themselves or making money. The Algerian dissident intellectual with enormous courage, whose life is on the line every day, Boualem Sansal, understands Islam and the danger surging therefrom because he grew up in and with it. That is why his book “2084” is such an important collection of insights wrapped in a story about the end of our world.

In the past, others thought about the end of the West, men like Dr. Oswald Spengler (in a brilliant work “Decline of the West”) or George Orwell who wrote his work “1984”, where he termed his vision of an impersonal superstate (a kind of Communist caliphate) in charge of the control of the people – “Oceania” – a state vision of dictatorship that operated along the lines of the Nazi-Soviet model of party-based corporate machine. For those who understand Islam, there will be no such superstate in store for an Islamic Europe led by Muslim fanatics. Instead, it would be a glorified 3rd world banana republic in which machinery and industry are operating on a subsistence level not too dissimilar from Iran after the revolution where cars manufactured every year are the same. Islam as a body of ideas possesses no dynamism and no urge to advance forward and soar in any sphere of intellectual pursuit. Islam is about walking in circles. Once Europe goes Islamic, it would take a Space Alien invasion to remove Islam from the dried corpse of a bygone Europe.

Author Boualem Sansal is right about one thing especially: the faith dictatorship without love or imagination that Islam would impose in Europe would seek to eradicate the past and brainwash everyone into thinking in present terms only. There would be no love but only coldness in such a society. And he has all these post-colonial Muslim countries around Europe today as evidence of what portends for European countries overtaken by Islam in the atmosphere of the existing lukewarmth of Europeans. Europeans today do not defend their values, the Germans especially don’t. For that reason, the warning from the New Testament’s Book of Apocalypse is evermore true:

“I know your deeds; you are neither cold nor hot. How I wish you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!” (Revelation 3:15-16)

“Islam will blow up our society”

Is Europe threatened by Islamization? In his novel “2084. The End of the World” the Algerian writer, intellectual and critic of Islam, Boualem Sansal, tells about a Muslim religious dictatorship. He has a special warning for Germany.

One early morning, nine o’clock. It is raining heavily in Paris. Boualem Sansal, 66, still took the metro. We meet in my quiet office in a backyard in the Marais. “It’s great here,” he says, then he sits down at the round table to describe a world in which there is no beauty, only fanaticism. He cut off his ponytail, which made him look like an Indian. Yesterday he was in Warsaw, tomorrow he will move on again. He has never been on the road for a book for so long, he says. He can barely make it home in Algeria. “2084 The End of the World” is the title of his most recent novel. Following the example of Orwell’s “1984”, Boualem describes a faith dictatorship. It is the radical Islam that has taken power and wiped out all memories of the time before it.

World on Sunday: Monsieur Sansal, your book is very grim. Orwell has at least one love story.

Boualem Sansal: I also wanted something encouraging. But in this world of Islamism, love would have been unbelievable. Orwell may have been an atheist communist, his imagination was Christian. In Christianity, love structures life.

Welt am Sonntag: It not only structures life, but also religion itself.

Sansal: The idea of salvation through love is omnipresent in the Christian universe. In Islam, there is only the chief love, the love of God. In this love, the women hide. The woman herself does not matter. Love [as we know it] is exactly what Islam fights.

Welt am Sonntag: Although your book is not enjoyable reading, it sold more than 300,000 copies in France alone. How do you explain this success?

Sansal: The people wake up. They realize that Islamization is not a local phenomenon but affects the whole of Europe. We are all scared – even if not everybody wants to admit it.

Welt am Sonntag: What kind of experience was it to write such a gloomy book?

Sansal: Neither painful nor pleasurable. I’m a scientist and I look at things like a behavioral scientist. Now and then something can move me, but then I bring myself to reason. You have to look things in the face without fooling yourself.

Welt am Sonntag: How does a Muslim read this book?

Sansal: A Muslim like me, who is not a believer but grew up in a Muslim country, probably reads it like you and me. You’re wrong about the West if you think the Muslims are all Islamists. They are more afraid of Islamism than the people of the West.

Welt am Sonntag: Since the attacks in Paris and Brussels, the West is also afraid.

Sansal: Sure. That was just the beginning.

Welt am Sonntag: A kind of wake-up call?

Sansal: Yes. After the assassination of “Charlie Hebdo” it was different. The majority could understand it. After all, they had committed blasphemy. They said it was not right to kill, but look what they did …

Welt am Sonntag: They provoked it like the girl in short skirt provokes her rape?

Sansal: Yes, and because of this logic, January’s attacks did not rouse people. The Bataclan, on the other hand, was an Islamist attack because it attacked the other for what he was, for his culture, for his lifestyle. It was a place for young people like the bars, the stadium, the places that make up the West. But the Islamists just want to provoke this process of raising awareness. They know that they can not defeat the West militarily. You can not even defeat the weak Arab states. So they have to make the West destroy itself. They want to split society, and they know that if they succeed, they will collapse on their own.

Welt am Sonntag: There are right-wing populist intellectuals in France who support the theory of “grand replacement,” the suppression of Western Christian civilization by Islam. Basically you say the same thing. What is the difference?

Sansal: I think the term is unhappy. It is not about replacing the population, but about a kind of fusion: France is about to Islamize itself.

Welt am Sonntag: But actually you agree with them. Is our culture going down?

Sansal: As a democrat I see our civilization go down with great regret, because it has brought humanity forward – even if their excesses have already hurt us.

Welt am Sonntag: Why are you staying in Algeria, why did you stay in the 1990s, when your life was threatened because of your criticism of the local conditions?

Sansal: I’m resisting.

Welt am Sonntag: Do you get your book in Algeria?

Sansal: In the meantime, but that took several months. At first people thought it was forbidden. It has passed under the table. From January it was suddenly everywhere. Wherever the wrong word is: in the few bookstores that still exist. After independence [from France], there were 150 cinemas and 250 bookstores in Algeria. There is not a single cinema left today and maybe four, five bookstores in Algiers. But the number of mosques has increased a thousandfold.

Welt am Sonntag: We have taken in a million predominantly Muslim refugees in 2016. What is your prognosis for Germany?

Sansal: Germany was completely naive. And in the long term, Germany is the country that is most threatened.

Welt am Sonntag: How naive?

Sansal: Because Germany has long imagined not to be affected by the problems of the world. “Islam, that is in France, in the UK, but not with us!” And then, because of the war experience, Germany is an extremely tolerant society. This is exploited. When the Algerian Islamists were driven out, they found refuge in Germany, where they were recognized as political refugees.

Welt am Sonntag: What evidence would you give that this war of cultures is already underway, even in Germany, that the Islamization of society is progressing?

Sansal: The clearest proof is the “Bataclan”. They have attacked not a barracks, but a concert hall, because they do not want a classic takeover, but lead a clash of civilizations. Secondly, just take a look at the Arab world, where this fight is unanimous and uninterrupted. As far as Germany is concerned, I am not so sure what will happen. Turkish Islam is not comparable to the Maghrebi. The Turks, who came to Germany in the seventies, immediately worked in industry. In France, the immigrants were left to their own devices. Algerians and Togolese were simply mixed, and they initially lived in inhumane conditions.

Welt am Sonntag: In Turkey, we are experiencing the Islamization of society with Erdogan. How do you see the development?

Sansal: The return of the religious, especially among the young, contaminates the whole society – and that will soon be felt in Germany as well.

Welt am Sonntag: We have experienced this interference and, if you like, contamination with the Böhmermann Affair [where a German journalist insulted the Turkish president publicly only to be arrested by his own German government on orders from the Turkish government].

Sansal: Erdogan behaves like a caliph, the Turks behave like subjects, and he has already built a palace. The Ottoman Empire was undoubtedly the most violent caliphate in the Islamic world. Currently, we are experiencing a return to this violence. Erdogan wants to rebuild the caliphate, but he knows that the Arabs would never accept it. Maybe he imagines extending his empire to Europe. For this reason, Germany is the most threatened.

Welt am Sonntag: You mean because of the Turks or because of the refugees?

Sansal: Neither. Because all Europeans resent Germany. Germany is rich, influential, extremely well organized. People dream of nothing but the crash of Germany. One nightmare complements the other. And Erdogan’s nightmares actually many Europeans share.

Welt am Sonntag: If you think that over, that would mean that we live under Erdogan’s caliphate in Germany. That sounds completely absurd. Is Europe at its end?

Sansal: Yes. It has no future anymore.

Welt am Sonntag: Can you still say what you think in Europe?

Sansal: No. It’s over. On the one hand, you invite me because you feel the need to hear other opinions that are not politically correct. At the same time, you are afraid that I will cause trouble.

Welt am Sonntag: What can’t you say?

Sansal: Nobody tells you that, it’s much more subtle. But everything that criticizes Islam causes problems. As if one can criticize everything today, even God, but not Islam.

Welt am Sonntag: Are you Islamophobic, Monsieur Sansal?

Sansal: Not in the sense of how the word is used. I do not like Islam, I do not believe in it, and I find that it is not just a danger, but an enormous danger. Islam will demolish our society.

Welt am Sonntag: Your colleague Kamel Daoud has caused a great deal of commotion because he described the young Muslims who attacked women on New Year’s Eve in Cologne as sexually repressed. Do you agree with him?

Sansal: Daoud lives in Algeria and experiences such situations daily. It is a society of frustration, not just sexual. A young Muslim who is suddenly confronted with a free society misinterprets a woman who shows her body.

Welt am Sonntag: Are we lacking the conviction and the courage to defend our values?

Sansal: The Islamists fight bravely for what they believe in. That alone has to be upheld. As far as we are concerned, unfortunately, I have to say: there is nothing that drives us. For the word freedom, we would have gone to the other end of the world sooner. Today it is hollow.

Welt am Sonntag: That’s not true. After the assassination of “Charlie Hebdo” millions have gone for the freedom of expression on the street.

Sansal: That was nothing more than a spontaneous feeling reaction. That had no value except to stage the heads of state. Above all, this poor Hollande, who would not do anything to a fly. In Algeria we have seen what people do when they are overwhelmed by emotions: meaningless, collective howling.

Welt am Sonntag: Do we have to take the title of your book literally: “End of the World”, no hope anywhere?

Sansal: You know, sometimes one little thing, one idea, one sentence, and things take a different turn. In Algeria, it was the words of the writer Tahar Djaout that went through the country like a fantastic wildfire. People were felled like dandruff from hair. He was right. His words encouraged.

Welt am Sonntag: What did he say?

Sansal: With his modest smile, he said in an interview, “If you talk, you’ll die. If you do not talk, you’ll die too. So talk and die.” A week later, they killed him.
