Warsame Shire Awale, a famous composer who had worked with Somalia's national army band before joining Radio Kulmiye as a drama producer and comedian, was attacked by two gunmen late on Monday.

"Gunmen killed him... we are investigating the matter and the killers will be brought to justice," police chief Ahmed Hassan Malin told reporters.

"Two men armed with pistols shot and wounded him near his house in Waberi district, he died shortly after in hospital," said Abdi Mohamed Haji, a colleague at Radio Kulmiye.

The killing, the latest in a string of attacks on media workers in Somalia, follows the murder of fellow comic Abdi Jeylani Malaq Marshale in August, who also worked at Kulmiye.

Press rights watchdog Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has called 2012 the "deadliest year" on record for Somalia, surpassing 2009 when nine died.

At least 17 reporters have been killed this year in the war-ravaged country.

Several killings are blamed on Al-Qaeda linked Shebab insurgents, but other murders are also believed to be linked to struggles within the multiple factions in power.

Its important to capture the video below, as part of our library function, as its another marker in the slippery slope of erosion of Free Speech on the grounds of 'offence', so it belongs here in the Censorship Room. Its also the most articulate and measured statement that I've seen from the BNP to date (although it did contain the usual collection of Leftist identity labels in the middle).

The past week has shown us what a Post-American world looks like and it isn't a batch of treaties that lead to men and women from around the world meeting to decide how to feed the hungry, clothed the naked and take everyone's guns away to banish violence from the world. It's mobs of violent savages ransacking embassies while their suited brethren use it to explain to our decadent leaders that the only way we will have peace is if we let them decide what sections of the Bill of Rights we get to keep.

Forget the UN, the Post-American order isn't a blue flag, it's a black flag with Mohammed on it. There are far more people in the world who believe in a world order based on the violent ravings of a 7th Century madman than the number of people who believe in a world order based on 19th Century European wishful thinking. And it helps that the supporters of 7th Century violence over 19th Century internationalism are far more willing to use murderous violence to get their way.

The burning embassies and authorities scurrying to intimidate the Mohammed filmmaker into making some kind of apology or going to jail, as their British predecessors bullied Salman Rushdie into doing, reveal the naked order of the new world. It isn't a place of treaties or laws, but of naked force and we will not be the ones doing the forcing.

In the new world order we will cower behind our televisions while the global mob, composed of whoever has the most surviving kids living on international handouts, will tell us what laws they want us to live under. And those will not be tolerant laws, they will not protect women or gays, let alone minority religions, they will be the laws of the violent majority, not that of the Christians or Buddhists, or the tinier numbers of Jews or Atheists, they will be the laws of Islam, because Muslims are willing to do what they aren't, go out into the streets and kill to establish those laws.

Let us dispense with any pretense that if we do criminalize defamation of religion or prosecute Mohammed cartoons as a hate crime, that this will be because we are tolerant or respect religion. It will be because we are afraid of Muslims and we are right to be afraid of Muslims because our leaders are gutless cowards who have no idea how to deal with anyone whose greatest fear in life isn't being called a racist on the evening news.

And let us dispense with the pretense that the growing internationalism is humane, rational or orderly. It is nothing of the sort, it is a mob of savages that kills to convey its demands to the officials who pretend to be running a humane and rational world order and uses them as its mouthpiece. When our enlightened leaders lecture us on offending Muslims, they are acting as the interpreters for bearded thugs who believe that Jinns are around every corner, that angels are afraid of cats and that women are inferior creatures because Mohammed went down to hell and found it full of women.

Any order that takes its laws from savages will be an order of savages, no matter how urbane and cultured the men and women who have chosen to act as their international representatives, while pretending to be ours, are. The world order envisioned by 19th Century Europeans is now a secret negotiation between their criminally idiotic descendants, who still go to all the right schools, and a mob of savages and their oil-rich patrons. Their global order is not taking us to the 22nd Century, but back to the 7th Century, and of all the things that they owe us, the least of them is to be honest about that.

Leftist Anti-Americanism has revealed itself to be Post-Americanism and Post-Americanism is nothing more than savages making laws by burning and killing things. And our Anti-American and Post-American elites had better start explaining to us why being governed by Salafi savages is a moral improvement over Americanism and they had better do a good job with that explanation because the American people are watching.

Laws are given by the conquerors to the conquered and the conquerors today are not the European colonialists, but a new wave of Muslim colonialists spreading across the world. The failure of the European chattering classes to deal with this simple reality, rather than celebrating the local version of that colonialism as cultural enrichment, while condemning any criticism of it as racism, is a further sign of their irrelevance and complete incapacity for dealing with any crisis more significant than a canape shortage at their latest book signing party.

Having ignored the crisis for as long as possible, they are now discussing on what terms the raiders should be able to impose their laws on us, while bellowing at us that any notion of Sharia law being imposed on us is a fantasy of racist extremists, even as they cower when the actual racist extremists tell them they want Sharia law or they will go on bombing, burning and killing. And there is still not even the faintest twinge of an honest discussion of this subject in any official forum, even as officials arrest men and women for the crime that in most Muslim countries is honestly known as blasphemy.

We can now see what kind of glorious world the abandonment of nationhood and national laws is getting us. It isn't a John Lennon song, it's a long screaming guitar solo, a wretched tormented yell of the savage set loose to kill in the night. It isn't a peace flag, it's the black flag of Islam scrawled with the supremacy of its prophet and its deity on every surface. It isn't a system that makes life better, but one that reverts to the savage order of those with the most power making the laws for all.

And that is what this is really about. Americanism guarantees rights to all Americans. It even guarantees rights to many non-Americans, and it uses force to protect those rights. Anti-Americanism however introduces us to Post-American Internationalism, which on paper guarantees so many rights that you can never remember them all, but that really only has one right, the right of those with the largest and most violent single group to impose their will on everyone else.

That is what Muslims have been doing consistently at the United Nations ever since its membership was opened up. That is why Israel is so consistently reviled and despised at the hands of a Muslim alliance and its foreign enablers. But as the alliance has grown and gotten stronger, its appetites are no longer limited to the Jewish State. Any country that defends itself against Muslim violence, from the United States to Russia and China, from the Philippines to Burma, India and Thailand, will sooner or later be gnawed on by the hungry savages looking to put more infidels under their boot.

Now we have come to the acid test of internationalism. The great naked emperor moment that will determine whether we will go on down the ladder to the 7th Century or climb back up to the light of a better future.

The question is childishly absurdly simple. Will we allow Muslim mobs to determine the content of our Bill of Rights? Will we decide that as Americans, we have a right to freedom of speech, without considering the "global opinion" of a band of savages who want us to bow down to their stone god and its views on women, freedom and blasphemy, or will we decide that as Post-Americans we must consider the opinions of the "international community" and accept that freedom of speech is no longer feasible in a connected world?

The spokesmen for the latter obscenity have already crawled out of their holes to bray at us about giving consideration for the feelings of others. Obama, Clinton and all their diplomatic stooges have spent so much time talking about our consideration for religion that they might as well have taken off their shoes and planted their noses into the nearest smelly carpet.

But suppose for a moment that we don't want to be considerate, support that we want to support the peculiar institution of allowing as many offensive opinions as can be found in a country of a few hundred million to proliferate. And suppose further that we believe that every person has the right to bray those opinions as he pleases, and that such a society of discordant arguments, where everyone is entitled to be right or wrong, ignorant or intelligent, bigoted or tolerant, crazy or sane, good or evil, without ever being sure which is which because it's the process of yelling at each other that allows us to discover this, is actually the best society, then we are being jingoistic American exceptionalists.

Americanism is a nation of people arguing with each other, without killing each other, and Post-Americanism, as we have just witnessed, is the people who are willing to kill winning the argument by default. Anti-Americanism is the view that the people who kill each other should win the argument because the fact that they don't have enough jet planes to kill us with proves they're not part of the military-industrial complex.

That is our choice. We can choose to be ruled by savages brandishing weapons or by the Bill of Rights. But let's not pretend that the rule of Obama or Ban Ki-moon is anything more than the rule of savages by proxy. It doesn't much matter whether the savages are here pointing a gun at our heads or if Obama or some civil rights commission is doing their dirty work for them; our choice is clear. We can either be ruled by our laws or by the Koran.

Internationalism is the Koran wrapped in a blue flag and a billion words of empty human rights guarantees that mean nothing. Only nations ruled by free people can guarantee rights and anyone who undermines them, who promotes an Anti-American or Post-American agenda, is promoting the law of the Koran over the law of individual liberty.

The left has a choice to make. They can either choose Americanism or the Koran, and for the most part they have made their choice. And we need to make ours. This is not a debate over policies, but over basic freedoms. This is not a conflict over what percent of taxes we will be paying, but whether we will have even the most basic civil rights left by the time that the international order of savages and murderers, and their transnational representatives, are done with us.

Laws are made by force, not by international consensus. The Salafis and their internationalist appeasers have reminded us of that. That force can be the force of free people making laws for themselves or the force of violent outsiders imposing laws on people who are unable to resist them.

Americanism is not there to "communicate" or "reach out" to the savages to explain how much we respect their religion and how much we disavow anything that offends their tender sensitivities. It is there to tell them that our laws are inviolable and not open for negotiations and that if they attack us, then they will pay the price. Americanism is there to say that if we are attacked, our first priority will not be to win the hearts and minds of a global community, but to inflict ruthless devastation on our attackers without regard for the collateral damage among those nations that harbor them, and that we will do this while minimizing the risk to our own lives, because nations are obligated and mandated to place a higher value on the lives of their citizens than on those of their enemies.

A nation has only those laws and freedoms that it is willing to defend. And if we lose the nation, then we will not have sold it for a better international order, but for the violent whims of the Anti-American savages of the Post-American world.
Manipulated Outrage and Misplaced Fury - by Husain Haqqani of WSJtag:4freedoms.com,2012-09-15:3766518:Topic:1115592012-09-15T01:38:43.470ZAlan Lakehttp://4freedoms.com/profile/AlanLake

The attacks on U.S. diplomatic missions this week—beginning in Egypt and Libya, and moving to Yemen and other Muslim countries—came under cover of riots against an obscure online video insulting Islam and the Prophet Muhammad. But the mob violence and assaults should be seen for what they really are: an effort by Islamists to garner support and mobilize their base by exacerbating anti-Western sentiments.

When Secretary of State Hillary Clinton tried to calm Muslims Thursday by denouncing the video, she was unwittingly playing along with the ruse the radicals set up. The United States would have been better off focusing on the only outrage that was of legitimate interest to the American government: the lack of respect—shown by a complaisant Egyptian government and other Islamists—for U.S. diplomatic missions.

Protests orchestrated on the pretext of slights and offenses against Islam have been part of Islamist strategy for decades. Iran's ayatollahs built an entire revolution around anti-Americanism. While the Iranian revolution was underway in 1979, Pakistan's Islamists whipped up crowds by spreading rumors that the Americans had forcibly occupied Islam's most sacred site, the Ka'aba or the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Pakistani protesters burned the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad.

Violent demonstrations in many parts of the Muslim world after the 1989 fatwa—or religious condemnation—of a novel by Salman Rushdie, or after the Danish daily Jyllands-Posten published cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in 2005, also did not represent spontaneous outrage. In each case, the insult to Islam or its prophet was first publicized by Islamists themselves so they could use it as justification for planned violence.

Once mourning over the death of the U.S. ambassador to Libya and others subsides, we will hear familiar arguments in the West. Some will rightly say that Islamist sensibilities cannot and should not lead to self-censorship here. Others will point out that freedom of expression should not be equated with a freedom to offend. They will say: Just as a non-Jew, out of respect for other religious beliefs, does not exercise his freedom to desecrate a Torah scroll, similar respect should be extended to Muslims and what they deem sacred.

But this debate, as thoughtful as it may be, is a distraction from what is really going on. It ignores the political intent of Islamists for whom every perceived affront to Islam is an opportunity to exploit a wedge issue for their own empowerment.

As for affronts, the Western mainstream is, by and large, quite respectful toward Muslims, millions of whom have adopted Europe and North America as their home and enjoy all the freedoms the West has to offer, including the freedom to worship. Insignificant or unnoticed videos and publications would have no impact on anyone, anywhere, if the Islamists did not choose to publicize them for radical effect.

And insults, real or hyped, are not the problem. At the heart of Muslim street violence is the frustration of the world's Muslims over their steady decline for three centuries, a decline that has coincided with the rise and spread of the West's military, economic and intellectual prowess.

During the 800 years of Muslim ascendancy beginning in the eighth century—in Southern Europe, North Africa and much of Western Asia—Muslims did not riot to protest non-Muslim insults against Islam or its prophet. There is no historic record of random attacks against non-Muslim targets in retaliation for a non-Muslim insulting Prophet Muhammad, though there are many books derogatory toward Islam's prophet that were written in the era of Islam's great empires. Muslims under Turkey's Ottomans, for example, did not attack non-Muslim envoys (the medieval equivalent of today's embassies) or churches upon hearing of real or rumored European sacrilege against their religion.

Clearly, then, violent responses to perceived injury are not integral to Islam. A religion is what its followers make it, and Muslims opting for violence have chosen to paint their faith as one that is prone to anger. Frustration with their inability to succeed in the competition between nations also has led some Muslims to seek symbolic victories.

Yet the momentary triumph of burning another country's flag or setting on fire a Western business or embassy building is a poor but widespread substitute for global success that eludes the modern world's 1.5 billion Muslims. Violent protest represents the lower rung of the ladder of rage; terrorism is its higher form.

Islamists almost by definition have a vested interest in continuously fanning the flames of Muslim victimhood. For Islamists, wrath against the West is the basis for their claim to the support of Muslim masses, taking attention away from societal political and economic failures. For example, the 57 member states of the Organization of Islamic Conference account for one-fifth of the world's population but their combined gross domestic product is less than 7% of global output—a harsh reality for which Islamists offer no solution.

Even after recent developments that were labeled the Arab Spring, few Muslim-majority countries either fulfill—or look likely to—the criteria for freedom set by the independent group Freedom House. Mainstream discourse among Muslims blames everyone but themselves for this situation. The image of an ascendant West belittling Islam with the view to eliminate it serves as a convenient explanation for Muslim weakness.

Once the Muslim world embraces freedom of expression, it will be able to recognize the value of that freedom even for those who offend Muslim sensibilities. More important: Only in a free democratic environment will the world's Muslims be able to debate the causes of their powerlessness, which stirs in them greater anger than any specific action on the part of Islam's Western detractors.

Until then, the U.S. would do well to remember Osama bin Laden's comment not long after the Sept. 11 attacks: "When people see a strong horse and a weak horse, by nature they will like the strong horse." America should do nothing that enables Islamists to portray the nation as the weak horse.

The Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain would like to make public its support for Tom Holland’s Channel 4 documentary 'Islam: The Untold Story' (http://www.channel4.com/programmes/islam-the-untold-story/4od). We are indignant to learn that due to threats made on Holland, Channel 4 has cancelled a repeat screening of the historical inquiry into the origins of Islam similar to the kind of inquiry that has been applied to other religions and histories in Britain for many years.

The threats and concerted attempt to stigmatise the documentary and its producers by attacking its credibility and even legitimacy as a field of inquiry is nothing less than an attempt to impose a blasphemy taboo by stealth and coercion against programming that scrutinises Islam.

Caving in to the coercive pressure of Islamists will have catastrophic effects on free inquiry and expression where it pertains to Islam. It would not only further silence academic, historical and theological scrutiny of Islam but would also have the chilling effect of exerting added pressure on Muslims and ex-Muslims who wish to dissent from and question Islam.

CEMB spokesperson Maryam Namazie says:

Here’s my question to Channel 4: what about the threats on our lives for being apostates, ex-Muslims, atheists, freethinkers, secularists, 21st century human beings? What part of our thoughts, lives, and bodies do you recommend we cancel to appease the Islamists? If only there was such an ‘easy’ ‘solution’ for those who are languishing under Islam’s rules. You may accept censorship and cowardly silence in the face of Islamist threats and intimidation but we cannot afford to do so. And we never will.

We left matters asking how the members of the Macpherson group could detect racism even when there was no overt evidence for it. The answer is that they could find racism because they put it there. This is called projection.

Now, projection is a term that is familiar enough, but often our understanding goes no deeper than the term itself, as if it were a phenomenon that takes place in a mental black box. But to make it useful for our purpose, a bit more of an explication will be useful.

There are thoughts or feelings that we could not stand to have. We hate them and, if we acknowledged having them, we would hate ourselves for it. But even to consider the possibility that we have them is already to see ourselves as having them., even if only hypothetically. Quite a problem. What are we going to do? One thing we can do is to experience them as being in somebody else. Then we can hate the other for having them, just as we would otherwise hate ourselves. We have, in effect, transformed an intrapsychic conflict into an interpersonal one

There are obvious advantages in doing this. We can let our hatred run at full strength; we can glory in it, seeing ourselves as righteous fighters for the good on the basis of our hatred of this bad stuff. We can even attack the other, under the premise that we are destroying the hated ideas in doing so.

Into whom would we project them? It is important to see that just about anyone will do, although someone who brings the forbidden idea to mind, even on the basis of the most tenuous association, would be an especially good candidate. The point is that what is important to us is not to make these attributions correctly, but to find a place for the ideas that is outside of ourselves. And our need to do this is incessant, since our fear of having the ideas is always there. So we can find someone to dump them into just about anyplace we are, because anyplace we go, it will be there.

Now we could be talking about any content of the mind here that would be unacceptable to a person. Homosexual inclination would be a good example, but in this case our interest is in racism.

The projection of racism is on extravagant display in the report of the Macpherson hearings. They mention five areas of evidence for the demonstration of racism: (a) the treatment of Mr and Mrs Lawrence at the hospital on the night of the murder; (b) the initial reaction to the victim and witness Duwayne Brooks; (c) the family liaison; (d) the failure of many officers to recognize Stephen’s murder as a racially motivated crime; and (e) the lack of urgency and motivation in some areas of the investigation.

Dennis, Erdman, and Al Shahi vivisect their findings of "racism" in these areas and show that, in every instance, whatever happened that was not optimal could be entirely explained by causes that are perfectly common and entirely understandable, showing that the imputation of racism is, in every case, egregious. For reasons of space, I can only consider one of them. But I think it is important to discuss an instance, just to give an idea for the feel of the thing, Remember that there was no evidence of racist feelings or behavior, but they found it nonetheless. Projection may be interpolated as the step between observations and otherwise unsupportable interpretations.

A police officer named Little was reported to have said to Mr. Lawrence at the hospital to which Stephen had been brought: "we've got a young lad in there, he is dead, we don't know who he is, but we would like to clarify that point. If it is not your son then all well and good, but we do need to know. I am sure you would like to know as well."

The Macpherson group observed to begin with, that Mr. and Mrs Lawrence required careful and sympathetic handling, and that Mr. Little's approach was insensitive and unsympathetic, which is fair enough, but then they said this:

Although he had worked in multi-cultural societies and areas throughout his service and believed that he treated everybody in the same way his lack of sensitivity and his inaction, particularly at the hospital, betrayed conduct which demonstrates inability to deal properly with bereaved people, and particularly those bereaved as a result of a terrible racist attack. He failed to deal with the family appropriately and professionally. This was unwitting racism at work. (emphasis added)

But what if Mr Little was just an insensitive guy, toward whites as much as blacks, or what if he was tired, or feeling harried at that moment? These obvious possibilities were not refuted, or even considered. The cause of his insensitivity was racism, and that was that.

One won't find a more classical example of projection, and this sort of thing was the norm.

Now let us consider what happens to those into whom we project these unacceptable thoughts. There are several possibilities here.

One is that they can refuse them. "I'm not a _______," they say. But those who do the projecting will not be not dissuaded. For reasons that have nothing to do with the target of their projections, they are sure of their judgments. So what does one do? Prove that one is not? How could one do that? How could one prove that something is not in one's mind? Inevitably, then, the person accused will be unable to respond to the charge in any way that is not transparently inadequate.

Another possibility is to identify with the projection, forming the complex Klein calls projective identification; one would internalize the condemnation coming from the other. The result would be to feel that the accusations are justified , which would make a sincere refusal impossible. The response is likely to be guilt, shame, and self-hatred.

An alternative is to do to others what has been done to oneself. Somebody has projected something into you, or you even imagine they have, or that they will. It doesn't much matter which, since it is in your mind as a possibility. You can try to get rid of it in the same way by projecting it into someone else, so becoming another righteous fighter in the cause. Before long, the cause becomes a social movement in its own right, albeit with a political, rather than a functional identity.

I want to move now to consider the effect the finding of institutional racism could have had on the British police, especially given the organizational endorsement of the charge rendered by Sir Paul Condon. We are looking particularly to see how the effect could have been an inhibition in their response to the riots of August, 2011.

In this, bear in mind that this charge was not a onetime thing. Calling it "institutional," rendered it, in effect, a defining feature of the organization, which, not being tied down to anything discernible and specific, could not be demonstrably outgrown. That would make it for all practical purposes, permanent. Along these lines, the Macpherson report called for the future training of police to be, from that time forward, designed to root out this racism, a process that assumes that the suspicion of racism would be essentially everlasting.

One could hypothesize the transformation of the organization in a number of directions, which, however apparently different, could occur simultaneously and build upon one another.

1) The development of a bunker mentality. The police could see themselves as being under siege, permanently subject to undeserved, arbitrary attack, from which they would not feel capable of defending themselves. They would believe that they would be condemned, no matter how reasonable their case. They would come to feel like a secret sect, separate from the society which they had undertaken to protect, and which they would come to resent. Systems of control and accountability would come to seem like agencies of oppression, which the organization would feel the necessity of defending itself against.

Obviously, such separation would lead to a systemic failure of engagement that could not help but have a negative impact on the system's responsiveness and its general effectiveness. We should also not be surprised to find, growing out of the resentment, a degree of schaedenfreude and passive aggression: "They created this mess, now let them live with it."

2) Operating at a deeper level, the system could become morally submissive. Having accepted the accusation of institutional racism, the system would be in the permanent condition of condemning itself, of finding itself guilty. And this guilt would not be for anything specific that one had done, but for who one is, which gives it the aspect of shame. Under the circumstances, it would lose confidence in its own spontaneous judgments, which, after all, are an expression of who one is. But, such confidence is necessary for a rapid response. Therefore, in a system of this sort the tendency would be for the police to question their motives, to hold them suspect, rather than act on them. The moral order would be inverted. Initiative would pass over to those seen as likely to bring charges of racism, which would be the bedrock of moral authority, and upon whom the system would become dependent. It might even come to see attacks upon it as legitimate and proper punishment. It is easy to see that such a police force would find it difficult to impose order on a group upon which they experienced such dependence.

We were looking to understand the causes of the inhibition of police counter-aggression. This, obviously, would do it.

3) The dynamic of dealing with a projection by projecting it elsewhere would redefine the mission and ultimately the nature of a police force. The police force would come to adopt "antiracism" as an identity. Then, instead of being a social subsystem whose goal is to enforce the society's laws, it would become a paramilitary force following political objectives.

But this dynamic can be based on people's apprehension about the possibility of being accused in this way, rather than on specific accusations as such. The result would be that it would tend to expand exponentially. It would also easily move outside the bounds of the police to other sectors of the society, perhaps even including former High Court judges such as Sir William Macpherson.

As the movement expands, "racism" becomes increasingly broadly defined; and antiracism, which inevitably has a rather tenuous focus, becomes subject to subsumption under deeper and more comprehensive political categories, such as those, for example, that formed the elite condemnation with which we started. Depending on the political steering currents in operation, a police force redefined in this way could come to see itself as directed against existing society itself, which it would come to see as inherently, perhaps "institutionally" racist, not to mention every other bad thing. Under the circumstances, increased identification with rioters, of whatever race, whose assault against society would come to be seen as legitimate and political in its own right, could be expected. The police force's capacity to impose order on a riot would, of course, become increasingly problematic. In the end, they might even join in.

As I have said, these tendencies, though distinct, could occur simultaneously and reinforce each other. For example, the separation from society could easily provide a setting for the politicization of the police.

In closing, it is good to reflect that none of this was foreordained. The condemnation of one’s society is not something that just happens. There is always a choice involved. Why British society, and Western society generally, through its elites, chose to condemn itself, and in the course of that made it impossible for it to defend itself, is outside the scope of this essay.

Anuradha Shetty 06:39 PM, 14 Aug 2012Latest reports confirm that Malaysia saw a day-long "Internet blackout" in protest against a legal amendment to the nation's Evidence Act. The act reportedly came into effect in April amidst a lot of opposition and has been viewed as a threat to free expression on the web. The protest saw the participation of Malaysian NGOs, popular bloggers and opposition politicians in the country, Reports suggest that during the protest, those participating had their existing homepages replaced with black screens with messages against the new section in the aforementioned act.

As per the reports, the amendment means that "any web host, provider of a wi-fi network, or ordinary user of a computer or mobile device can be found liable for any defamatory or harmful Web content sent via its systems." The protest also saw its support in Malaysia's Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ), which called the amendment a "bad law" that was "passed in haste and does not take into account public interest and participation." They, along with some other critics are now pushing for either scraping the amendment or revising it.

Reports further add that, "Users attempting to access Paultan.org, a highly popular automotive-themed blog, were greeted with with a black pop-up screen that said 'This is what the web could look like' under the legal change."

Earlier in July this year, there were reports about the Russian government proposing amendments to the "Law On Information" and that a discussion was in place in the State Duma of the Russian Federation on the topic. At that time it was reported that if accepted, these amendments would put into effect 'a real censorship on the Internet' in the country, leading to the closure of services like Wikipedia in Russian.

Even Wikipedia had observed a site blackout earlier this year to protest the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). CEO Jimmy Wales had begun tweeting that he'd started to do press interviews on the Wikipedia blackout and has even started a hashtag for the topic, called simply #WikipediaBlackout. He also tweeted that he hopes Wikipedia will melt phone systems in Washington on Wednesday and in another tweet, called out to students to do their homework early, because "Wikipedia protesting bad law on Wednesday."

Internet censorship has been a raging topic back home, too. Even as you're reading this, popular social networking site, Facebook, among others is fighting a legal battle, over allegedly hosting objectionable content on their sites, thereby being potent of harming the nation's peace and harmony. The year, so far, also saw protests throughout the nation by hacking group Anonymous against Internet censorship in the country.

It’s a tragedy that the Israelis – a people who must understand better than almost anybody the horrors of oppression – are now acting as oppressors. As the great Jewish writer Primo Levi once remarked “Everybody has their Jews, and for the Israelis it’s the Palestinians”. By creating a middle Eastern version of the Warsaw ghetto they are recapitulating their own history as though they’ve forgotten it. And by trying to paint an equivalence between the Palestinians – with their homemade rockets and stone-throwing teenagers – and themselves – with one of the most sophisticated military machines in the world – they sacrifice all credibility.

The Israelis are a gifted and resourceful people who fully deserve the right to live in peace, but who seem intent on squandering every chance to allow that to happen. It’s difficult to avoid the conclusion that this conflict serves the political and economic purposes of Israel so well that they have every interest in maintaining it. While there is fighting they can continue to build illegal settlements. While there is fighting they continue to receive huge quantities of military aid from the United States. And while there is fighting they can avoid looking candidly at themselves and the ruthlessness into which they are descending.
