LAWYERS dressed in their court robes join protesters lining up to support migrants amid ugly scenes in Paris.

Violence erupted as police used tear gas and batons to clear a camp they branded illegal. Interior minister Gérald Darmanin requested a detailed report from commanders on the ‘shocking’ scenes at Place de la République on Monday night. The migrants, who were given 500 tents by charity Utopia56, said they set up camp in the square after being moved from other sites.

Social media footage showed officers attacking journalists and one of the lawyers. One Afghan refugee was forcefully tipped out of the tent that he was lying in. Socialist senator Rémi Féraud said: ‘Such inhumanity shames the Republic.’ Mr Darmanin said he would decide if action was required after receiving the report from police.
