Statement written by Kinana and delivered by Tommy Robinson of the EDL on 5 November 2009 to Austrian TV, during which a group of EDL members burned a Nazi flag.
The Nazi flag is a symbol of domination, terror and war.
Nazi Germany was defeated in 1945 but, of course, these evil forces manifest themselves in other times and places; a vigilant people need to be always awake to these dangers.
We burn the flag here tonight to say we are not part of its history or its ideology; and we will fight these forces of evil wherever we find them.
Britain played a crucial part in removing the boot of Nazism from the throat of Europe.
Our nation fought for liberties in World War II that are threatened today by Islam.
For on our streets today are Muslim preachers and their sympathisers who want to bring Sharia law into this country.
Sharia means the domination of women, rule by Muslims, intolerance of and discrimination towards non-Muslims, and the end of democracy.
Sharia threatens basic values in society: such as equality before the law, freedom of conscience, freedom of speech, and self-rule.
Many people suffered and died in World War II to protect and pass on to us these basic values. We must do our part to safe-guard this precious legacy and pass it on to our children.
Britain is a tolerant country, like many other countries in Europe, but it is nonsensical, and would mean national suicidal, to tolerate the promotion of intolerance.
The English Defence League is raising the alarm. We are shouting out a warning. That is all we are doing. We hope the alarm bells will ring in homes throughout the land so that more people get involved in whatever way they can. We particularly hope that those in government hear the alarm bells and stop pandering to proponents of Sharia.
We are accused of being racists. I ask what race is Islam? What race are Muslims? Muslims come in all races and in all colours. The one thing they have in common is Islam. The accusation of racism is a lazy and dishonest way to avoid the argument; it is easier to call us names than to avoid open discussion of the problems that exist because of some Muslims. For example, three of the four bombers in the 7 July 2005 London terrorist attacks were born and raised in England.
And four years after these murderous attacks: Two hundred school children in Britain, some as young as 13, have been identified by the police as potential terrorists. And so the danger persists and grows.
How can we be accused of being neo Nazis? We are proud to carry the flag of Israel on our demonstrations. We believe that Israel not only has a right to exist but also the right to defend itself.
Your viewers, watching this on television, may wonder why I and my friends here have our faces covered. This reflects a security situation not of our making.
The enemies of an open and free society want us to remain silent and would use any means to stop this movement. Though our faces our covered we will not be silenced and we will be heard.
