It takes a nation to protect the nation

How the Jihad ravaged Christian Byzantium for 800 years, and how valiantly the Byzantine Christians held back the Arab and Turkish hordes, saving Europe from Islam.

While the Zoroastrian Persians were defeated and were being subjugated, the Muslim hordes turned on their other neighbor the Christian Byzantines and two armies met at the battlefield of Heiromyak.

Lessons from the Battle of Heiromyak (Al Yarmuk) in 636

At the Battle of the Yarmuk (river), between the Muslim Arabs and the Byzantines, the Muslim Arabs were losing the battle in the initial stages. When the victory seemed certain for the Byzantines, the Muslims took recourse to subterfuge, when they realized that victory could not come to them through straight warfare, they used a contingent of women to attack the Byzantine troops who charged at the Byzantine army shrieking and hollering. Not used to facing ladies as an adversary, the Byzantines were at a loss to respond and the confused Byzantine generals ordered their troops not to molest the women and to withdraw.

The Byzantine Christian city of Caesarea had walls that were sixteen feet high with many turrets and had withstood the Arab Muslim siege of more than eight months, so the Muslims used this devious way to infiltrate the city and once inside they ruthlessly slaughtered its determined inhabitants to the last man, except for a few who managed to reach the port and board the ships and flee to safety. So much for allah giving them victory. This proves that Arab Muslims can stoop to any depth to gain a victory which they allege some allah helps them.

With their guileful victory at Heiromyak, the Muslim wasted no time in fanning out in to the now defenseless Syria, and started storming one town after another making their way first to Jerusalem and then onwards to Bethlehem, Nazareth, Tiberias, Cana, Tyre, Sidon Damascus to the Byzantine mercantile capital in the Levant – the metropolis of Caesarea. In those days Caesarea was a strongly fortified by twins tier of walls with innumerable turrets. These had been built to stave of the repeated Persian (Sassanid) assaults that were launched at it. Because of the strong battlements, the Sassanids failed to take Caesarea, but that could not prevent the lustful eyes of the Muslims from falling on this prosperous city.

When you try explain the Islamic scriptures to others, you often find their eyes glaze over with boredom and lost concentration, and they really don't get it, you appear to them to be describing some sort of ancient poetry which really does not have any practical interpretation in the present day. So I was rather glad to find the incident below from the battle of Yarmouk, one of the most important battles of Christian and Islamic history, recorded in Tabari, Vol 2, p595.

Here you have someone clearly explaining the 3 steps, before he carries them out:
(1) convert to Islam, or
(2) pay the Jizya, or
(3) I will kill you.

The next time someone doesn't "get it", tell them this story!

Breaking the ice at the Battle of Yarmouk
The Battle of Yarmouk took place over six days in August 636 when the Islamic State (the Caliphate) was under the rule of the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) closest companion Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). The battle comprised a series of engagements between the Islamic Caliphate and the Byzantine Empire near the Yarmouk River, along what is today the border between Syria and Jordan, south-east of the See of Galilee. It is regarded as one of the most decisive battles in human history, and marked the first great wave of Islamic conquests after the death of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

Here is how the battle began.

At dawn the Muslim corps lined up for fajr salah (dawn prayer) under their respective commanders. As soon as the prayers were over, every man ruished to his assigned place. By sunrise both armies stood a little less than a mile apart awaiting the battle to commence.

Then, a Byzantine general by the name of George (known as Jarjah in Arabic) emerged from the Byzantine army and rode towards the Muslims. Halting a short distance from the Muslims he raised his voice and asked for Khalid bin Waleed. Khalid, one of the commanders of the Muslim army, rode out with the anticipation of beginning this epic battle with a duel with George.

However, this duel was unusual. As Khalid drew near, the Roman made no move to draw his sword and begin fighting. Instead, he proceeded to ask Khalid a few questions.

General George said to General Khalid in Arabic:

“O Khalid, tell me the truth and do not decieve me, for the free do not lie and the noble do not decieve. Is it true that Allah send a sword from heaven to your Prophet? . . . And that he gave it to you? . . . And that never have you drawn it but your enemies have been defeated?”

“No!” replied Khalid.

“Then why are you known as the sword of Allah?”

At this point, Khalid explained to George how he recieved the title of Sword of Allah from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He recieved this title after triumphing by the Will of Allah at the Battle of Mut’ah.

At this, George asked Khalid:

“Tell me, to what do you call me?”

Khalid replied, “To bear witness that there is none to be worshipped but Allah, and Muhammad is His slave and Messenger, and to believe in what he has brought from Allah.”

“If I do not agree?”, asked George.

“Then the Jizya (a tax), and you shall be under our protection.”

“If I still do not agree?”

“Then the sword!“, exclaimed Khalid.

George considered the words of Khalid for a few moments, then asked:

“What is the position of one who enters your faith today?”

“In our faith there is only one position. All are equal,” replied Khalid.

“Then I accept your faith!”, George concluded. [Conversation narrated in Tabari, Vol 2, p595]

Glory be to Allah, how amazing! This epic battle began with the conversion of one of the Byzantine commanders to Islam! We learn here of the straight forward truth that Khalid bin Waleed spoke. He explained in clear terms, using just a few words with vast meanings the fundamentals of the Islam. It is never too late to become Muslim, as long as one is alive – even if he was just about to fight Islam!

What’s even more astonishing is the fate that Allah, may He be exalted and glorified, had in store for George. A few hours later that very day, George would fight heroically for the faith he had just embraced and die a martyr.

Comment by Kinana:

The acceptance of conversion must come before the battle commences. it is not to be accepted by the Muslim at the conclusion of the battle when the non-Muslim is a prisoner of the Muslim. for that occassion other rules apply! references for this point from the Quran and hadith will be provided later but it is a cruicial point because once the battle commences the only real life-saving guarantee for the non-Muslim is victory.

The lessons are repeated down through islamic history. from OBL we have this clarifying statement to non-Muslims:

'There are only three choices in Islam: either willing submission; or payment of the Jizya, through physical though not spiritual, submission to the authority of Islam; or the sword – for it is not right to let him [an infidel] live. The matter is summed up for every person alive: either submit, or live under the suzerainty of Islam, or die.’

Yarmouk was home to the largest Palestinian refugee community in the country before the conflict began. 180,000 Palestinian civilians called it home. Now only 20,000 remain. Food and medical supplies are routinely denied entry and starvation is one of the three main causes of death. Recently, in the Jarabulus area, 22 people were killedand thrown into the streets to instill fear in the population. Some of them were children.

Amnesty International has called for the immediate lifting of the siege, the cessation of shelling and other indiscriminate attacks, and for humanitarian agencies to have unfettered access to the area. The disproportional attacks on civilians must end.

Down with Israel? Not quite. Yarmouk and Jarabulus are in Syria.

In fact, many in that country are decrying the lack of attention to their plight and the fact that images and videos often go viral only when they are falsely presented as being from Gaza. Marc Lynch, the Director of the Institute for Middle East Studies at GWU, put it succinctly when he said, “It must be so awkward having to check whether the dead child is from Gaza or Syria before deciding whether to be morally outraged.”

So to those condemning Israel: Are you pro-Palestinian, or are you really just anti-Israel? Many of you purportedly care so much when you really care so little. As Leon Wieseltier of the New Republic once wrote: It is easier “not to dive deep into the substance of anything. It is less immediately satisfying than cursing and linking.”

My Twitter and Facebook feeds would have me believe that the only noteworthy military conflict in the world today is that between Israel and Hamas. Either many of you care about war only when it involves a Jew holding a gun, or you are woefully unaware of what else is going on in the world. In case it is the latter, and I sincerely hope it is, here is a (very) partial list of the death tolls from other ongoing conflicts. In no particular order:

Syria: 170,000 (~700 this past weekend alone!)

Mexico: ~80,000

Nigeria: ~5,000

South Sudan: ~10,000.

Gaza: ~600

This is not to say that your attention and sympathies should be dictated by casualty counts. All civilian deaths are tragic. Moreover, such figures tell us nothing about the moral standing of the warring parties, especially not in the case of the asymmetric warfare that Hamas is waging. After all, the United States lost about 450,000 lives fighting in World War II while the Nazis lost over seven million, yet I would wager that none of you think the Nazis held the moral high ground. At least I hope so. The twisted logic and moral relativism of some of the posts I have been reading make me wonder.

What these figures do show is that while all war contains tragedy, including the one in Gaza and Israel, only deaths connected to Jewsseem to evoke the cries we have been hearing over the number of dead in Gaza, which pales in comparison to other conflicts and is largely due to Hamas’ grotesque tactics. While there are few of you whom I would accuse as individuals of holding animosity toward Jews, there are many of you who are participating in a global, collective media assault on Israel that is indeed suggestive of something much darker.

I am not asking you not to care. On the contrary, I am hoping that you all start to care more – about the many problems in the world. Then, perhaps going forward your condemnation of Israel could be – let’s see, how I should I put this – more proportional.

Eyewitness tells of terrors in Damascus Palestinian camp

Published: 04/12/2015 at 5:52 PM

WARNING: Images in this story are graphic, and reader discretion is strongly advised.

The horrors just keep getting worse for Palestinians in the Damascus refugee camp in Yarmuk, where, after enduring two years of famine and siege, an eyewitness says he saw ISIS terrorists beheading civilians and playing soccer with their heads.

That’s when Abdel Fatah fled for his life.

“I saw severed heads,” he said. “They killed children in front of their parents. We were terrorized. We had heard of their cruelty from the television, but when we saw it ourselves … I can tell you, their reputation is well-deserved.

Fatah found temporary refugee with his wife and seven children at the Zeinab al-Haliyeh school in Tadamun, a southeastern district of the Syrian capital held by the army.

The school is currently home to 98 displaced people, among them 40 children, who have been put up in three classrooms.

Anwar Abdel Hadi, a Palestine Liberation Organization official in Damascus, said 500 families, or about 2,500 people, fled Yarmuk before ISIS fighters attacked the camp last week.

The camp has been encircled for more than a year, but is now reported to be almost completely under the control of ISIS and al-Qaida’s local affiliate, Al-Nusra Front.

According to Britain-based monitor the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, nearly 200 people had died in Yarmuk from malnutrition and lack of medicines before last week’s bloody assault.

“In Palestine Street, I saw two members of Daesh (the Arabic name for ISIS) playing with a severed head as if it was a football,” said 16-year-old Amjad Yaaqub.

Wearing a baseball cap sideways, rapper-style, the youth has a swollen eye and chin.

“Daesh came to my home looking for my brother who’s in the Palestinian Popular Committees. They beat me until I passed out and left me for dead,” he said.

“I left without bringing any belongings. My husband wasn’t able to join me. I walked out hugging the walls so snipers couldn’t see me,” said 19-year-old Nadia, nursing her two-month-old baby.

Yarmuk.  1400 years on and nothing has changed.  From the holy, spiritual, pure founders of Islam, to their modern descendents.

This forum is also important because it contains the example of converting to Islam before battle commences, as done by General George [conversation narrated in Tabari, Vol 2, p595].

Alan asked

There is no mention here of the subterfuge of dressing in Burqas, so if anybody has an original source for that part of the story, I'd be grateful.

Yo alan, somebody is telling porkies, all the CJM sites that claim that the mohammedans donning hijabs or burqas fail to give a source.

On the other hand the tale about the women folk fighting is true.  Below is an interesting account :-

On the Muslim right the army of Qanateer, consisting mainly of Slavs, attacked the corps of Amr bin Al The Muslims held on bravely and the attack was repulsed. Qanateer attacked for the second time with fresh troops, and again the Muslims repulsed him. But when Qanateer attacked for the third time, again using fresh regiments, the resistance of the now tired Muslims broke, and the bulk of the corps fell back to the camp, while part of it retired to the centre, i.e. towards the corps of Sharhabeel.

As the corps fell back in some disorder, Amr ordered his cavalry regiment of 2,000 horse to counter-attack and throw back the Romans. The cavalry went into battle with great dash and for some time checked the Roman advance, but was unable to hold it for long. It was repulsed by the Romans and turned away from battle, also making for the Muslim camp. As the horsemen reached the camp along with the foot soldiers, they found a line of women waiting for them with tent poles and stones in their hands.

The women screamed: "May Allah curse those who run from the enemy!" And to their husbands they shouted: "You are not our husbands if you cannot save us from these infidels." Other women began to beat drums and sang an improvised song:
O you who run from a constant woman
Who has both beauty and virtue;
And leave her to the infidel,
The hated and evil infidel,
To possess, disgrace and ruin!

What these Muslims received from their women was not just stinging rebukes; they were actually assaulted! First came a shower of stones, then the women rushed at the men, striking horse and rider with tent poles; and this was more than the proud warriors could take. Indignant at what had happened, they turned back from the camp and advanced in blazing anger towards the army of Qanateer. Amr now launched his second counter attack with the bulk of his corps.

The situation on the Muslim left was only a little less serious. Here too the initial Roman attack was repulsed, but in a second attack the Romans broke through the corps of Yazeed. This was the army of Gregory, with chains, more slow-moving than the others but also more solid. Yazeed too used his cavalry regiment to counter attack and it too was repulsed; and after a period of stiff resistance the warriors of Yazeed fell back to their camp, where the women awaited them, led by Hind and Khaulah. The first Muslim horseman from the left wing to arrive at the camp was Abu Sufyan, and the first woman to meet him was none other than Hind! She struck at the head of his horse with a tent pole and shouted: "Where to, O Son of Harb? Return to battle and show your courage so that you may be forgiven your sins against the Messenger of Allah."

Abu Sufyan had experienced his wife's violent temper before and hastily turned back. Other warriors received the same treatment from these women as the soldiers of Amr had received from theirs, and soon the corps of Yazeed returned to battle. A few women ran forward alongside the horses and one of them actually brought down a Roman with her sword. As the warriors of Yazeed turned again to grapple with the army of Gregory, Hind took up her song of Uhud:

We are the daughters of the night;
We move among the cushions
With a gentle feline grace
And our bracelets on our elbows.
If you advance we shall embrace you;
And if you retreat we shall forsake you
With a loveless separation.

Thanks for that Shiva.  We never want to weaken our case with dubious stories.  Why should we?  The case against Islam is so strong already without them.  So I've removed the dubious part about the burqa clad men.

Here's the links for the story from Al Tabari of George's (Jarjah's) conversion to Islam, before battle commenced.  Note that this is in the Islamic year 13 (636AD) when Abu Bakr was Caliph, the time of the companions of the prophet, the time free from Jahiliyyah, as Sayyid Qutb would say.

Muslim Terrorism Count

Thousands of Deadly Islamic Terror Attacks Since 9/11

Mission Overview

Most Western societies are based on Secular Democracy, which itself is based on the concept that the open marketplace of ideas leads to the optimum government. Whilst that model has been very successful, it has defects. The 4 Freedoms address 4 of the principal vulnerabilities, and gives corrections to them.

At the moment, one of the main actors exploiting these defects, is Islam, so this site pays particular attention to that threat.

Islam, operating at the micro and macro levels, is unstoppable by individuals, hence: "It takes a nation to protect the nation". There is not enough time to fight all its attacks, nor to read them nor even to record them. So the members of 4F try to curate a representative subset of these events.

We need to capture this information before it is removed.  The site already contains sufficient information to cover most issues, but our members add further updates when possible.

We hope that free nations will wake up to stop the threat, and force the separation of (Islamic) Church and State. This will also allow moderate Muslims to escape from their totalitarian political system.

The 4 Freedoms

These 4 freedoms are designed to close 4 vulnerabilities in Secular Democracy, by making them SP or Self-Protecting (see Hobbes's first law of nature). But Democracy also requires - in addition to the standard divisions of Executive, Legislature & Judiciary - a fourth body, Protector of the Open Society (POS), to monitor all its vulnerabilities (see also Popper).
1. SP Freedom of Speech
Any speech is allowed - except that advocating the end of these freedoms
2. SP Freedom of Election
Any party is allowed - except one advocating the end of these freedoms
3. SP Freedom from Voter Importation
Immigration is allowed - except where that changes the political demography (this is electoral fraud)
4. SP Freedom from Debt
The Central Bank is allowed to create debt - except where that debt burden can pass across a generation (25 years).

An additional Freedom from Religion is deducible if the law is applied equally to everyone:

  • Religious and cultural activities are exempt from legal oversight except where they intrude into the public sphere (Res Publica)"
